The most enchanting experience at Mae Sa Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand, is being able to interact with the elephants.
You can buy bunches of bananas or sugar cane to feed to the elephants. It only costs about fifty cents per bunch.
It is impossible not to smile (and feel a little nervous) with an elephant trunk around your shoulders.
It is an enormous muscle with bristles on it. Not to mention this one was pretty much giving me a wet willie in my ear.
The “hat trick” is fun. The elephant puts his trainer’s hat on your head:
Then he taps the hat gently with his trunk before removing it again!
I will never forget it! I already want to go back.

It looks like so much fun! Thank you for answering my question from yesterday. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I could see elephants painting–it was just the detail that astonished me. And the self-portrait.

Oh you are sooooo lucky! Elephants are my favorite animals, and i wish I could go there. I was so impressed with the paintings they made in the last post…did they honestly do them from start to finish?
I just want to hug those sweet creatures.

I went to this camp last May and it was one of the highlights of my trip! I loved it! Ok so I have a question that is completely unrelated, but do you know how to make Rotees or Roties? We got some from the street vendors while we were in Thailand and I can’t find the right dough recipe to make them ourselves. I’m craving them!!:)

Those are some great pictures - I am happy you had fun up there. Chiang Mai is so much cooler than down here in Phuket.
