Win a Tag Reader for You and One For Your Library!

Reading aloud to your child is SO important for a variety of developmental reasons.
I actually had the mind boggling experience of teaching a reading class to university age students who were not raised in a culture where parents read to their children.

Concepts that I never remember not grasping, such as the ability to summarize a story, or retell something in my own words, or to logically predict what might happen next, were completely and utterly impossible to teach these adult learners who had grown up without being read to!

Believe me; I wrote a thesis about it.

Jojo loves for us to read to him! Depending on the text he chooses, Jojo might learn interesting facts, see beautiful artistic illustrations, or stretch his imagination with fanciful tales.

He also loves our Leapfrog Tag!

Leapfrog is raising awareness about NEA’s National Reading Month with their brand new 1 Million Reading Hours program.

LeapFrog’s 1 Million Reading Hours program aims to bring attention to literacy and to encourage families to make time to read together.

LeapFrog encourages parents to pledge to set aside at least 10 minutes a day to read to your child, contribute to the national goal of 1 million reading hours committed.

As you strive toward this worthy goal, you will also reinforce the importance of shared reading time in your own family.

All participants will receive special rewards and offers!

LeapFrog is sponsoring a generous giveaway for Mom Most Traveled readers.

One winner will receive one Tag reader + 5 books for personal use, as well as an expanded-memory LeapFrog School Tag reader + 10 books to donate to their local library.

To enter the giveaway, visit the 1 Million Reading Hours Campaign website and make a pledge in the LeapFrog 1 Million Reading Hours Campaign. Leave a comment here letting us know how much time you pledged to read to your child each day!

This giveaway is open to US residents.

This contest will close at 11:59 pm CST, March 31, 2009.

LeapFrog Tag Reader and 5 books, plus another set to donate to your library! winner: congrats to Danetta!

15 minutes every morning and night for my very active toddler. That’s all the time I can get him to stay still at one time :) I hope to progressively increase this time as he grows.

    Thanks for this great giveaway!

This is great! I love reading, my husband loves to read and I hope that my dd will love books too. I try to read frequently throughout the day, but sometimes it’s a little hard than others. I pledged 20 min a day. I also printed off the calendar to help keep track. The city I live in is new and therefore the library is truly the size of a closet. They could really use this!
