I love blogging and reading other people’s blogs, but I have noticed something disturbing about my blog commenting behavior.
Sometimes, and I can’t explain why, I go into an inordinate amount of details when leaving a blog comment.
I’m not talking about friend blogs, I’m talking about total stranger blogs that I just stumbled accross and was moved to comment about.
It’s like I can’t stop myself. I just keep the comment rambling. I’m like the lady you wish you didn’t have to sit beside on the airplane, because she won’t stop trying to conversate and FOR GOODNESS SAKES ALL YOU WANTED TO DO WAS READ YOUR BOOK AND SLEEP!
I don’t know what comes over me. I just get so enthusiastic about some topics I can’t seem to help it.
I even do this on contest entry comments sometimes!
For example, maybe a blog contests asks, “Who would you give this prize to?”, and next thing you know I’ve typed 250 words about how Jojo loves superheroes and likes to dress up in red rain boots and a cape every day.
Or if I’m in more of a melancholy mood I will share too much information about why my life is difficult (or was difficult in the past).
The thing about that one is it gets on my nerves when people do that when entering my contests! Especially the ones that don’t fulfull the entry requirements and instead type something like, “This would be great, my grandson needs shoes because his dad is in jail and his mom is on crack. Anything would help thanks.”
You have my sympathies, but winners are selected at random! Maybe I can help you find a charity…
The most irritating comment along these lines was around Christmas time. Some one entered a book giveaway and said, “This would be great to win unless it is some kind of scam to sign me up into a book club, because we can’t even afford the return postage right now.”
Uh, thanks for insinuating that I write a scam blog to trick “winners” into giving their money to third parties. That is totally what I do! I am so busted! </sarcasm>
Seriously lady, get your free books at the public library.
So anyway, I wonder to myself, “Is this me being REAL? Or am I just being SCARY? And where exactly is that line when you cross over from authenticity to freaky?”
What is the weirdest comment someone (not a spammer) has ever left on your blog?
And what about you? Do you ever get a little overzealous when faced with an empty comment box on a “stranger” blog?

I blog about my autistic son which i try and do in a positive way. So was stunned when i started blogging at the amount of nasty comments i get. I wont repeat them as they really can be really evil. I now moderate my comments.
So what you descirbe as freaky or rather enthusiastic - sounds great to me!!

Nothing to out of the ordinary. Just a few spam comments, once and awhile one in a foreign language I can’t understand. Those get deleted pretty quickly. Love the title of your post. Population: 485 (P.S.) by Michael Perry is pretty popular here considering the book is based in a WI town. He has a new book out called Coop: A Year of Poultry, Pigs, and Parenting. I haven’t read it yet. Oh, there I go with the 250 word comment!

That’s hilarious-I do the same thing…ramble on about something if I am excited or passionate about it. Even when entering contests I do it (but I always fulfill the requirements, too!
) if I am really and truly excited about the product! Don’t worry about it at all-we all love comments and don’t mind rambles! As for a specific comment? I don’t know-I don’t advertise my personal blog because it’s mostly for friends and family, and I’ve deleted those great spam comments off of my contests blog-I haven’t had any horrlble ones. I better stop before I ramble

You’re not crazy! I sit there sometimes wanting to leave a comment, but unsure what exactly to say. I’ve only gotten one snarky comment so far. But, my blog is small, I’m sure they’ll be more later. I don’t understand why someone thinks you would be trying to scam them. That is a little strange!

This is one of the best articles you have written! I love it! The best for me was when I posted the article about “Just say No to video games.” It was just to put out awareness and the amount of hate mail I got from it was shocking! Someone posted on my facebook…”I am sure that Glitterful Felt hired this lady to write this article to promote their items.” I only wish I made enough money to hire a specialist to write an article for me blog?!?! I actually got a lot of humor out of it.

I hope you’re not referring to the undies comment you left on my blog recently! LOL
I too tend to ramble with entering contests for something I really like. It’s not that I think someone is going to read it, but I want to make an impression in case I win and they actually do read it.
I tend to get the most random commenters during giveaways on my blog, but I normally don’t read the entries (unless it’s a blog friend or a winner), so I’m not sure what wack-jobs have left me cryptic messages. Now you make me want to go back and re-read my comments because I know there’s some funny gem in there.

I’m going to try to reign in the overwhelming desire to type a novel right now and just say: ME TOO!!!!!!!!

I am so guilty. LOL Seriously, I can’t help myself. But maybe the psychotic part in my blog name (well, if they look) gives that away?

I have had to delete three paragraphs and just kinda end with a random sentence. I am so horrible.
I haven’t had hardly any odd comments.

Yeah. I pretty much think you might be crazy. I mean, there was that incident about the elf crotch and all…
However, in your defense Miss CanCan, I will say that you are most delightfully insane.
And No. I never ramble.

Actual comment:
Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected for when I found a link on Delicious telling that the info here is quite decent. Thanks.
I’m so glad that he’s not “totally impressed” since it leaves us some room for improvement.
