This week was one of many firsts in our house.
Jojo came home from school with a black eye for the first time. The only explanation was that it was an “accident”. No one ever explained the circumstances of the accident.
Jojo also had a more positive “first” this week! He read for the first time!
Jojo is 4 1/2 and I really haven’t been driving him to read on he own; we just do the normal stuff like bedtime stories.
I do attribute some of his reading readiness to having memorized the Leap Frog - Letter Factory DVD the week after his 2nd birthday.
That DVD teaches the phonetic sounds for each letter of the alphabet (but not blends such as “th”). It made for some pretty impressed preschool teachers when Jojo displayed his phonetic knowledge.
I purchased Bob Books, Set 1: Beginning Readers about a year ago because they have a bazillion positive reviews on Amazon. I pulled them out this week and Jobes actually read the first 4 books in the set this week!
He read one each night (he didn’t feel like it tonight).
They are only a few pages long of course. The first one is something like “Mat sat on a cat”, etc., etc., but still!
My baby can read! I am one proud Mama!
His school is having a Scholastic Book Fair tomorrow; I hope they have Bob Books Set 2-Advancing Beginners.
I’m having to give myself a budget so I don’t go BOOK CRA-ZAE!
Deeds is still a cutie, but is growing increasingly whiny. It seems to only happen when I am within arms reach of him. If I stay far away, he is less moody.
Early in the week he surprised me by sitting up in his crib to give me a hug and a kiss goodnight when I laid him down.
Normally if he gets up it is to whine or cry, but this time he was calm and collected; just wanted to give mama some sugar!
But tonight he did the crying thing instead of a hug, so I guess he likes to change it up.
And, in my personal quest to win wonderful blog giveaways, I have had NO WHAMMIES this week.
I won some delicious smelling Mahogany cologne for my hubs from one of my favorite up-and-comming blogs Wishing Penny!
I won some Joggermom accessories (like a “no-throw”, and a stroller caddy!) from Bookie Boo, a sample of Triamenic children’s cold remedy from Jendi’s Journal, an Ududoll from A Latte In The Morning, two books and a coffee mug from The Book Faery Reviews, and a parenting book from Boutique Cafe.
I just can’t stop entering contests! I won my first prize when I was about 6 years old. I found the gold egg in an Easter Egg hunt at Zayre (remember that store?). I exchanged the gold egg for one of those pre-made shrink wrapped Easter baskets with a Bugs Bunny doll in it. I was so proud.
Then when I was around 8 years old I won a raffle for a free book at the grand opening for the short lived, locally owned Dino Store. My brother and I loved the Dino Store.

Did JoJo have any stories about the black eye? Creepy…
Jasper is also a whiny mess. He wouldn’t nap in his crib so he’s on the couch. We’ll see how long that lasts. Ugh.

Oh my, you must have freaked out when you saw the black eye! Hopefully it’s not from a scuffle that he won’t tell you about.
Yay for Jojo and reading! I hope it’s the start to a lifelong book affair. I too was never able to control myself when it was book fair time at school.
I sadly haven’t won much this week, but then again I haven’t had much time to enter stuff. I really hope to get a big win soon, like a FLOR rug.
And I too remember Zayre…funny! The first “big” thing I won was at KMart though, and it was a cardboard school bus playhouse. That was so exciting!

My son has come home from school with mysterious bumps, brusises, scrapes, etc a few times. Each time I always immediately contected his teacher and the school administation and kept up until I had answers that I was satisfied with.

Wow you r lucky i cant seem to win nething these days i even did the
leg work to get 29 entries into a contest for a swift and a ball
