I love audio books. I like to read, but my reality right now is that I need to multitask.
So, listening to an audio book while I am exercising, driving, or cooking makes me feel like I am doing something for "me" while fulfilling my other duties.
I was sent a copy of The Word of Promise: New Testament Audio Bible by Thomas Nelson Publishers. I have purchased audio Bibles in the past but became bored by the droning monotone narration.
I was very pleased that The Word of Promise: New Testament Audio Bible is less "audio book" and more "radio theatre", featuring a cast of over 100 vocal actors, many of them well-known names, like Jim Caviezel, Richard Dreyfuss, and Marisa Tomei.
The Word of Promise: New Testament Audio Bible is a 20-CD set and includes a bonus "Behind-the-Scenes" DVD, all packaged in a nifty, zippered CD wallet.
The books aren’t assigned one per CD. The longer books, like the Gospels, are divided onto 2 or more CD’s, while the shorter books, like the letters, are combined on to one disc.
Here is a video I made to give you a sampling of audio from the book of Mark, Ephesians, and Revelation:
The Word of Promise: New Testament Audio Bible is in the New King James Version (NKJV).
One difficulty that I had with the CD’s is that my player doesn’t give any indication of what chapter of the Bible the CD track might be.
I don’t know if it would be different in a more high-tech player or a computer, but if you wanted to pre-set the CD to a specific verse or chapter while leading a Bible study, it might be a bit of a headache.
From a production and dramatic standpoint, this is honestly one of the best audio Bibles I have ever come across.
Background sound effects and musical tracks are understated so as to not take away from the words and meaning.
The Word of Promise: New Testament Audio Bible would be great in the car for long, contemplative commutes.
Thanks, Thomas Nelson and Book Sneeze for my complimentary review copy.

Fantastic video here on the word of promise! I have the mp3 set and agree that it is more radio theatre which makes it great actually.
