The Precious Girls Club

All of my childhood, I was a tom boy (although I didn’t like the term). I envied boys because it seemed that their lives were simpler and more easy. Boys clothes are less fussy (I hated the girl’s jeans that had zippers at the bottom of the tapered leg and was forced to shop in the husky boys department), toys for boys were more fun (Nerf bow and arrow! Hello!?), and boys aren’t as mean to each other as girls (where did you get that shirt? It’s ugly)!

I have since embraced my feminine side, but I still find “stuff” marketed toward young girls to be overwhelming at times. Does being a girl equal having bad taste and loving all things tacky? The “pink aisle” in the big box store would make it seem that way.

Do I want young females in my family to dress like Bratz dolls? Hecks, no!

According to a survey conducted by Mom Talk Radio, 93% of moms feel like young girls today are being pressured to grow up too fast.

Is there a more wholesome alternative to “Bratz” type nonsense that can give girls a sense of belonging and inspire them to virtuous living?

That sounds like a tall order, but a that is what Precious Moments is trying to offer a today’s girls in their newest project, the Precious Girls Club.

I remember the Precious Moments of my childhood in the form of coloring books, puzzles, and collectible figurines. Now, Precious Moments is launching a new product line and an interactive virtual world website for girls 4-8 years old.

The Precious Girls Club has takes that same Precious Moments face and gives it new life in the form of a young girl named Katie.

Katie is the star of the Precious Girls Club book series. I was able to review A Little Bit of Faith, the first book in the series.

A Little Bit of Faith is about Katie and her experiences making new friends in a new school. Katie learns to put her trust in God and to have faith in Him in all circumstances.

A Little Bit of Faith is a 72 page hardcover “chapter book” that has color illustrations and large print. The message in A Little Bit of Faith is written from a Christian viewpoint, but in such a way that girls from a variety of belief systems could also probably relate. I think owing to the age range of the intended audience, you will not find a lot of theology here; just a values-focused story.

Besides books, The Precious Girls Club brings Katie’s world to life in a virtual world (www.preciousgirlsclub.com), where girls can create a profile and make friends, participate in fun online games and have access to tools to start their own clubs in their communities. The Precious Girls Club is meant to be a safe place for young girls to discover how wonderful it is to be precious.

There will also be a charm bracelet component to the club, where members can earn charms by exhibiting “Precious Values” such as acting in loving, kind, helpful and responsible manners.

Other related products, including figurines, jewelry, charms, and other accessories will be available soon from www.PreciousMoments.com !
