The Little General and the Giant Snowflake is a children’s book (ages 4 to 8 ) with layers of meaning that also draw in the adult reader.

Written by Matthea Harvey and published by Tin House Books, The Little General and the Giant Snowflake
is an allegorical tale of two opposing armies: the Realists and the Dreamers.

In their world, giant snowflakes appear to those who don’t use their imagination. One day the little general sees a giant snowflake hovering in his garden. Ashamed, he pretends not to see it, but eventually he discovers that everyone in his army has a similar problem.

What is the lesson of the snowflake?

The Little General and the Giant Snowflake is 64 pages long and is beautifully illustrated by Elizabeth Zechel.
