Show Me Some Leg! Tights and Leggings at Duane Reade #CBias #DRLegwear

Duane Reade pharmacy has an awesome selection of legwear. Yes, seriously. They are manufactured by the same company that makes legwear for high end clients like Nordstroms.

At Duane Reade, you can get DR branded stockings, tights, socks, and leggings from $6.99 to $17.99 (for leggings!).

My legs are happy, they look awesome in DR Legwear. Frugal fashion? Win Win!

I was wearing DR Legwear when I went to Duane Reade a few weeks ago to shoot a video promo for the Show Us Some Leg Duane Reade Facebook Contest.

See my legs:

Mreowrrr! Those DR Legwear stockings I am sporting are $6.99. SIX! NINETY NINE! I KNOW!

Here is CelebuStylist Jess Zaino in front of the vast DR Legwear selection. Awe-summ!

I made a whole Google + Album of our Legwear adventure. Go take a look!

Holiday Shopping @DuaneReade #DRHappyAndHealthy #CBbigApple #cbias

My favorite place to shop in NYC (Duane Reade pharamacy, doy duh), just released their latest in-store magazine, Happy and Healthy.

IMG 1935

You can read it online or pick up a copy at your neighborhood Duane Reade.

It really is like a magazine, besides having the sweet holiday shopping deals, it also has actual articles, like beauty tips from Halle Berry, and instructions on how to do a Sun Salutation in Yoga. I know!

IMG 1941IMAG2298

So it pretty much has the same Advertisment:Info ratio as magazines that you pay like $4.95 for in the checkout line. But Happy and Healthy is free, so total win.

Free information is my boyfriend!

I got excited about Happy and Healthy, and it is very holiday-focused, so I went berzerko and bought a Duane Reade Christmas tree.

I completely had my tree up and ready to go on the day it snowed. Remember the Nor’ Easter?

IMAG2290IMG 1717

Sidebar: I am from the south, and I thought Nor’ Easter sounded really fun, like Easter with a viking/norseman flair.

Maybe we would eat haggis (I assume they eat rawish, disgusting cuts of animals) and pillage something?

No. “Nor’Easter” just means really cold air comes down from some cold place (like too cold for life, like one of the ice planets, maybe Jupiter?) and dumps snow and misery all over your city.

That Nor’Easter wind totally BLOWS.

See what I did there?

Anyway, what DOESN’T totally blow is the awesome deals at Duane Reade (and see what I did THERE? I’m a genius, people. Hire me.).

OLOGY is a new brand of eco-friendly products available at Walgreens and Duane Reade. They have all kinds of stuff, from recycled paper napkins to super special world-saving light bulbs. Also, the price points are pretty decent and allow you to feel superior when you wash your clothes with eco-friendly soaps.

Or your hair, because they make shampoo even.

I know, they stay busy making cleany stuff at Ology.

I made a Google + album of my recent shopping trip to Duane Reade. Check it!

Also keep up with @DuaneReade on twitter. They are the most followed pharmacy in the world, so you know they must be fascinating!

Duane Reade on facebook often has lovely photos of NYC, so keep an eye on that too!

Did you know you can watch Duane Reade TV on YouTube? Give that a whirl.

Jozsef Major, 3rd Place NYC Ironman Finisher! #DRIronman #Cbias

After interviewing Duane Reade sponsored triathlete Jozsef Major, I went back to the Ironman Village the next day to hear him give a talk about training for Ironman races.

IMG 0174

Jozsef has been a professional triathlete for 8 years, and has finished Ironman races 30 times. Incredible!

He is the 2008 Ironman Arizona Champion, the 2010 China Ironman Runner-Up, and the 7-Time Ironman Distance Hungarian Champion (2005-2011).

He shared his 11 week training summary and it is BANANAS!

IMG 0175

He starts of easy, swimming only 2.56 miles the first week of training, running 15.14 miles and biking 141.53 miles in that same week. Holy Cannoli!

He uses some kind of GPS to track his route and times and progress. On a 18.15 mile training run, his time was 2 hours and 19 seconds. Phew!

IMG 0171

Jozsef said that before an Ironman you should prepare mentally and make a plan. Don’t forget to HYDRATE! “Drink. drink. Eat. Repeat” is the mantra.

IMG 0176

It is important to fuel your body with good quality food, and be sure to sleep and relax before race day! You need to “taper” off your workouts, but still move your body!

Jozsef also advised that you can NOT make up for missed workouts. So don’t try to “cram” in a 100 mile bike ride! Tsk tsk!

Conversely, do NOT stop working out completely. Just take it easy!

That is sound advice from someone who knows!

IMG 0172

Here is a Google + story, where I took lots of photos of his talk.

I Met Jozsef Major At The 2012 NYC Ironman Competition #DRIronman #CBias #SocialFabric

IMG 0172

Last week, New York City hosted its first ever Ironman race!

An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. -Wikipedia

The race was met with great excitement, and competitor’s slots were sold out in less than 8 minutes after registration went live.

IMG 0157

I was told that over 1400 of the competitors were first time Ironman entrants!

In this 2012 Ironman competition, Duane Reade pharmacy was the title sponsor of the “Ironman
Village” and the sponsor of Jozsef Major, a competitor in the race.

IMG 0152

I went to the Ironman Village at Pier 92, W. 52nd Street and had the opportunity to interview Jozsef Major, who has been doing triathalons for 20 years, 8 years of that as a professional!

IMG 0174IMG 0154

In the past 8 years, Jozsef Major has competed in 31 Ironmans. Holy moly!

Jozsef had been training in Connecticut in the month leading up to the Ironman race, and on the weekends, he actually visited the actual ironman race route in NYC to practice the running portion.

He said that the running route was particularly challenging, and that the swim portion was supposed to be “easy”, though swimming is the part of the race in which he is least confident.

When asked for advice to young triathlete hopefuls, Jozsef Major said that it was important to learn good swimming form.

So, if you give your children a good foundation in swimming, they will have a future advantage in triathlon racing!

For more pictures of my day at the Ironman Village, check out the Google+ photo album I made!

New Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy at @DReade #Dreade #DReadeVIP #cbias

IMAG1276

On Tuesday, May 22, I went to Duane Reade at 40 Wall Street to see a demo for a hair care product from New Clear Scalp and Hair Therapy.

This is shampoo and conditioner that actually NOURISHES YOUR SCALP. Yes! Its like scalp food.

So if your kids are begging for a pet, you can be all, “when is the last time you fed your scalp? or took it for a walk?”

Exactly.

IMAG1283

There was a magic Wheel that helped me determine what kind of Clear Scalp and Hair Therapy was right for me…I have a normal scalp (not oily or dry) and frizzy hair.

They hooked me up with free samples!

I was told about this event because of my position as a Duane Reade VIP blogger, but it was open to the public, and all opinions are my own!

My Spring Duane Reader Shopping Expedition #DReade #CBias #DReadeVIP

I am a VIP blogger for Duane Reade drug store. One of the first things I learned about when I met the Duane Reade team was a magical publication called the Duane Reader.

They showed me the fall edition of the Duane Reader and said the spring edition would soon be printed. I was crazy excited! Its like a hip magazine mixed with a treasure map for in store deals!

You can view an online version of the Duane Reader to see how it inspired my shop!

When I first got the Duane Reader I was really impressed with the deals it contained. I love deals and couponing, but, to be honest, I find it more difficult to coupon in New York than it was when I lived in Alabama.

Looking at a circular really helps me to think through what deals I might want when I’m actually in the store. I think planning my trip with a circular lets me get the most bang for my shopping buck!

Duane Reade really is my go-to store when I’m out and about in New York City. Case in point: I decided one day to walk from 60th street to Union Square. It took a while, and just for fun, every time I saw a natural foods store, I stopped in looking for a particular vegan snack food that I like. EVERY natural foods store I stopped in did NOT have what I was looking for.

Finally I was so hot, I stopped in a Duane Reade to get a drink. What did I see in Duane Reade? The vegan snack food.

But, back to the DUANE READER! This is what the Front Page looks like:

I made a Google + story with all the fun I had scavenger hunting with my spring edition of the Duane Reader in hand!

IMAG1137

The Duane Reader is your treasure map to deals! I hunted them all!

It actually wasn’t a big “challenge” to find things because there was lots of signage and clues that alerted me to where each item was.

IMAG1126

Boom! A flattering picture of deLish snack mix, a hot deal in the Duane Reader! Too bad it can’t help my unflattering FatFace in this photo.

I was excited to find that the Apt. 5 cutting boards I have been coveting are a SUPER BUY right now! Eco-friendly, and budget friendly.

IMAG1130

It was hard to not buy ALL of the amazing food deals! I did score some 75% off Easter Candy and Easter  Baskets!

CanCan Wants To Be @DuaneReade VIP #DReade #cbias

1350 Broadway 1

If you haven’t been to New York City, chances are that you haven’t been initiated into the magic that is Duane Reade Pharmacy.

The Magic comes from all of the amazing amenities contained within the various Duane Reade stores.

Depending on the location, a given Duane Reade could have a Photo Kiosk, Digital Photo, Film Processing, Skin Wellness, Moneygram, Blockbuster Kiosk, Look Boutique, Walk-in Clinics, Fresh Food, Growler Bar, or Sushi bar.

Duane Reade currently has an open call for 10 NYC-dwelling VIP bloggers to partner with for 2012. This is exciting to me because, to be honest, I think Duane Reade is awesome and I wanted to visit all of the super cool locations anyway.

As a VIP blogger, I would have a legitimate reason to trek out to the Chelsea Duane Reade and eat sushi. Otherwise, I might have to just do that in secret and not tell anyone, lest they judge me for spending my free time exploring a hyper-local chain pharmacy.

In this video I tell the story of how Duane Reade was a part of my initiation into New York City living.

The first time I ever flew to New York, my ear drum ruptured as the plane was landing. I had to make an emergency clinic visit, and then stumbled around Manhattan confusedly until I finally found a Duane Reade where I could get my prescription filled.

That was my first time.

Initially I was wary, because Duane Reade was new and different. But, I had nothing to lose, except my consciousness if I continued to wander around confusedly on that hot summer day.

At the moment, I wasn’t ready to appreciate all of the Duane Reade perks and extras, but they took care of me in my time of need, and I will never forget that.

I work in Murray Hill, and I live in Clinton Hill.

That might sound intimidatingly hilly (it is 95% less hilly than the Appalachian foot hills wherein I was raised), but it means that, wherever I am in my normal daily routine, one of the over 250 Duane Reade locations is within easy striking distance.

Screen shot 2012 01 09 at 2 23 16 PM

My Personal Duane Reade Bucket List includes these tasks:

-obtain my workday lunches from Duane Reade, every day for one week

-obtain perfectly manicured nails using only Duane Reade supplies

-eat Duane Reade sushi

-celebrate holidays, both large and small, using supplies from Duane Reade

-make appropriate use of the Growler bar

-take weekend field trips to all of the super special Duane Reade locations, including the new Chelsea locale, the Broadway at 35th street locale, the Bedford Ave store in Williamsburg, and the flagship store in Union Square.

-buy an eco-friendly bamboo cutting board (hey…I didn’t say all of the tasks had to require a lot of effort or anything).

I hope to lead you as your fearless Duane Reade VIP in 2012!
