Shopping At @RookieUSA NYC #RookieUSA #CBias #SocialFabric

This weekend I went shopping at Rookie USA on the upper west side of Manhattan.

Rookie USA has all kinds of hip urban-cool clothing for kids.

When I arrived at the store on 808 Columbus Ave, I was greeted by a cheery store associate who had balloons. I don’t know if she was handing them out to kids, but it still made me be all, “Ooo, balloons!”.

Next, upon entering the store, I was met by talking hologram Carmelo Anthony

I didn’t really pay attention to what Hologram Carmelo Anthony was saying, but I just thought to myself how cool it was that Rookie USA had a hologram greeter.

I was very impressed by the selection of girl-targeted sporty clothes at Rookie USA. They had gym clothes, bags, and all kinds of athletic shoes.

I was actually expecting to see sporting equipment at Rookie USA, and there wasn’t any. I was hoping to purchase shin guards for soccer, and cleats. Rookie USA does not carry shin guards or cleats.

But I did like these pink shoes:

I decided on some Converse shoes to replace a worn-out pair of chucks that need to be retired.

IMG 0561

The sales associate was very helpful in offering tips to get the best size, since different brands seem to be sized differently.IMG 0559

We have a winner!

I think the best part of Rookie USA is the extensive kids athletic shoe selection, but I also saw plenty of cute “street style” sporty clothes that caught my eye.

Just look at this adorable warm-up suit:

IMG 0548

I would like to dress both of my kids in that and force them to perform Beastie Boys songs on the subway for money.

With a sweet suit like that, your kid would be illin for sure. Awwww yeah #RookieUSA!

There were so many cute clothes that I took 34 photos of my shopping trip and made a Google + album of all of the cool stuff I saw at Rookie USA! Go see!

Rookie USA is on twitter and facebook, too!

I Met Jozsef Major At The 2012 NYC Ironman Competition #DRIronman #CBias #SocialFabric

IMG 0172

Last week, New York City hosted its first ever Ironman race!

An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. -Wikipedia

The race was met with great excitement, and competitor’s slots were sold out in less than 8 minutes after registration went live.

IMG 0157

I was told that over 1400 of the competitors were first time Ironman entrants!

In this 2012 Ironman competition, Duane Reade pharmacy was the title sponsor of the “Ironman
Village” and the sponsor of Jozsef Major, a competitor in the race.

IMG 0152

I went to the Ironman Village at Pier 92, W. 52nd Street and had the opportunity to interview Jozsef Major, who has been doing triathalons for 20 years, 8 years of that as a professional!

IMG 0174IMG 0154

In the past 8 years, Jozsef Major has competed in 31 Ironmans. Holy moly!

Jozsef had been training in Connecticut in the month leading up to the Ironman race, and on the weekends, he actually visited the actual ironman race route in NYC to practice the running portion.

He said that the running route was particularly challenging, and that the swim portion was supposed to be “easy”, though swimming is the part of the race in which he is least confident.

When asked for advice to young triathlete hopefuls, Jozsef Major said that it was important to learn good swimming form.

So, if you give your children a good foundation in swimming, they will have a future advantage in triathlon racing!

My Spring Duane Reader Shopping Expedition #DReade #CBias #DReadeVIP

I am a VIP blogger for Duane Reade drug store. One of the first things I learned about when I met the Duane Reade team was a magical publication called the Duane Reader.

They showed me the fall edition of the Duane Reader and said the spring edition would soon be printed. I was crazy excited! Its like a hip magazine mixed with a treasure map for in store deals!

You can view an online version of the Duane Reader to see how it inspired my shop!

When I first got the Duane Reader I was really impressed with the deals it contained. I love deals and couponing, but, to be honest, I find it more difficult to coupon in New York than it was when I lived in Alabama.

Looking at a circular really helps me to think through what deals I might want when I’m actually in the store. I think planning my trip with a circular lets me get the most bang for my shopping buck!

Duane Reade really is my go-to store when I’m out and about in New York City. Case in point: I decided one day to walk from 60th street to Union Square. It took a while, and just for fun, every time I saw a natural foods store, I stopped in looking for a particular vegan snack food that I like. EVERY natural foods store I stopped in did NOT have what I was looking for.

Finally I was so hot, I stopped in a Duane Reade to get a drink. What did I see in Duane Reade? The vegan snack food.

But, back to the DUANE READER! This is what the Front Page looks like:

I made a Google + story with all the fun I had scavenger hunting with my spring edition of the Duane Reader in hand!

IMAG1137

The Duane Reader is your treasure map to deals! I hunted them all!

It actually wasn’t a big “challenge” to find things because there was lots of signage and clues that alerted me to where each item was.

IMAG1126

Boom! A flattering picture of deLish snack mix, a hot deal in the Duane Reader! Too bad it can’t help my unflattering FatFace in this photo.

I was excited to find that the Apt. 5 cutting boards I have been coveting are a SUPER BUY right now! Eco-friendly, and budget friendly.

IMAG1130

It was hard to not buy ALL of the amazing food deals! I did score some 75% off Easter Candy and Easter  Baskets!

Stop & Shop Adventures With @Coinstar #NoFeeCoinstar #CBias

IMAG0948

Last week I went on an adventure to a far away land called The Bronx.

I rode the subway over hill and dale, and over Riverdale, to find a participating Stop & Shop store so I could cash out a Stop & Shop gift card via the Coinstar kiosk (normal fee 9.8%).

At the select locations, there is NO FEE if you cash out your coins for a Stop & Shop gift card. Tres awesomesauce!

Here is my Google + Story of my journey.

Now Stop & Shop is probably the best grocery destination in NYC for budget conscious folks. And I was BORN budget conscious.

So, when I had the opportunity to cash in my pocket change jar for at Stop & Shop gift card, well, to me, that constitutes excitement.

For Real.

I didn’t know what to expect from the Coinstar machine because I had never used one. I hoped that it wouldn’t be a tedious feeding of the coins into a slot just a few at a time.

When I walked into the Stop & Shop, the Coinstar machine was right in the entry way.

IMAG0927

To my delight, you just dump the coins on a metal trap door and the machine does all of the work for you. WOOHOO!

They were advertising the new NO FEE Promotion with noticeable signage

IMAG0916

Then you tell the machine what to do, like a boss, via the touch screen.

IMAG0921

Then, I shopped it UP! I spent $13 and that amounted to 3 grocery bags full! I got a taco dinner kit, three cans of beans, tomato sauce, tomato paste, a bag of roasted peanuts, frozen blueberries, cornbread mix, quick oats, and other deliciousity!

IMAG0943

Look at these Honey Graham crackers, only $1.50 for the box! BaZinga!

IMAG0932

I love Stop & Shop! I wish they were closer to my house!

Check out Coinstar, @Coinstar on twitter, and Stop & Shop on Facebook!
