I am so eager to select the SweetPea3 player giveaway winner. I had a super-fun time reading all of the entries, although I was TOTALLY FLOORED to have over 500!!! (573, to be exact. Woot woot!)
Looking at what you guys and your children listen to gave me some inspiration for songs to introduce to my own children. Sometimes I get so caught up in life that I forget about things like how I always wanted to teach Jojo how to sing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”.
I expected you all to say that your children loved the familiar favorites like Veggie Tales, the Wiggles, nursery rhymes, and worship songs, and many of you did, but there were a few unexpecteds, too:
Lisa’s child has a patriotic spirit and enjoys the Star-Spangled Banner and God Bless
and Lori’s kids only calm down when they hear “You’re A Grand Old Flag”.
I guess I have been living under a rock, because I have never heard of Laurie Berkner, but she has lots of fans in the blogosphere: pjmomof3boys , Preppy Mommy, Ashley, Beckie, kamewh , Michelle, Tiff, mommiof4, and many others, but I started having back pain…
And I also forgot about all of the “oldies” songs that I know by heart (did I ever tell you my dad was an oldies deejay for most of my life?). My kids could be rockin’ to “Oh, Sweet Pea”, like Jenn, or “Witch Doctor” like Lilith Silvermane , or Barbara Ann like ShaunJoy .
Heather feels guilty that her kids like the song “Hot Girls” by INXS, and Christian Kay is a bit embarrassed that her family loves Journey’s Greatest Hits, but I don’t think these moms need to stay in the closet about their non-kiddie selections.
Once we rented a car for 3 days and it had a lone Scorpions tape left in the player. It became the theme of our trip, and we made up new lyrics to “Winds of Change” (we didn’t touch the whistling solo though; that is already flawless. If you ever record an album of any kind, whistling solo= musical genius).
Amanda reminded me of the song New Soul which totally makes me cry, EVEN in iPod commercial form (I’m such a dork) because it makes me think of my little new soul baby Deeds who was just born this year *sniff*. He’s just trying to learn what is true and fake! *sob*
