Sports Guys

Ever since he could toddle, Jojo has been drawn to small figures.

He will be 5 in October, and the imaginary scenarios he creates using figurines and action figures are getting more and more complex.

Jojo was excited when we got the opportunity to review Soccer Guys, one of the Sports Guys sets from Kaskeykids.com

In this picture he is talking to Papa on the phone, who was overseas at the time, telling him all about his cool new Soccer Guys.

Included in the Soccer Guys play set is twenty four players (12 on each team), 1 referee, 2 goals, a 2″ plastic ball that has air in it, and a 24″ x 36″ washable felt field. And? Added bonus: they come in a nice, stackable storage box with a carrying handle.

I was impressed by the size and quality of the soccer field!

Jojo asked me how to set up the teams, which lead into a discussion of the finer points of defense. Should we use a 4-4-2 formation with 4 defenders, 4 midfielders and two forwards/strikers? Or maybe load the forwards more heavily with a 3-4-3?

I started playing soccer when I was 5 years old. Did I have any idea of the rules? No. I didn’t even understand what “off-sides” meant until I was in 9th grade.

Besides being just plain fun to play with, the Soccer Guys play set is a great visual tool to help your child understand the rules of the game!

My opinion is that there is not a single young sports fan alive who would not be thrilled with a Sports Guys playset in their favorite sport! Or even ALL of their favorite sports!

On the Kaskey Kids website, there is a Kids Corner where you can see fan photos of other children enjoying their Sports Guys, AND you can find new ideas for ways to play with your Sports Guys, sent in by fans!

If your child is a sports fanatic and you want them to give the sports video games a rest, give them some no-tech, creative fun with a set of Sports Guys.

Jojo and I give our Soccer Guys play set two thumbs up. We do have to hide the ball from Deeds (age 2) though, because he is tempted to put the entire thing in his mouth.

Kaskey Kids have won several awards for their sports play sets, including the 2009 Mom’s Best Award for the Hockey Action Figures, and a 2008 Creative Child Magazine award for the Football, Baseball, Hockey and Soccer sets.
