Smart E Bear Is Mama’s Best Friend, Too!
Chances are you have heard by now of the hot new toy called Smart-e-Bear; so far, Smart-e-Bear has been honored with the NAPPA Gold award, picked as one of Dr. Toy’s Best 10 Technology Toys and Best 100 Products, included in Top Kid Tech Gifts in Tom’s Guide, won a Greatest Products award from iParenting Media Awards. Not only that, you might have seen Smart-e-Bear by Intellitoys as the featured item in Toy Wishes holiday magazine.
Personally, anything with that much hype makes me extremely skeptical. I was expecting some kind of lame animatronic doll with extremely limited functions and an annoying voice (remember the popular “hot toy” of a furry red monster with a high pitched voice that giggled a lot? I was unimpressed!).
After playing with Smart-e-Bear, first I just want to say “Wow!”
Smart-e-Bear is incredible.
Where I was expecting the “hundreds of songs” to be tinny, cheesy kiddie songs (in my imagination they would be played on a toy piano), Smart-e-Bear is actually more like a huggable iPod that comes pre-loaded with fantastic music by award winning children’s artists. Check out the list of contributing artists.
You can choose from dance songs, quiet lullabies, and classic children’s songs (I personally enjoy “Five Little Monkeys”, sung by Yosi).
If you ever get tired of the same old songs, you can choose from over 5,000 titles available online and upload them on to Smart-e-Bear using the included USB.
With Smart-e-Bear, you can “Connect, Click, Cuddle”, customizing what it will say and do (including enabling your Smart E Bear to say your child’s name). You can even easily program Smart-e-Bear to be bilingual.
Smart-e-Bear also plays games with your child. There is “Musical Bears”, and classic games like “Simon Says”. My husband laughed when Smart E. Bear bested me in a game of Simon Says. But, uh, the sun got in my eyes.
My favorite feature of Smart-e-Bear is the fantastic story library, with familiar and original stories told by award winning storytellers.
These stories (such as The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen, and Rumpelstiltskin, among many many others), are reminiscent of the golden age of radio. I will fully admit that I have been listening to stories on the Smart-e-Bear even after my children are in bed. There, now you know!
Measuring 13” tall, this plush pal utilizes electronics about the size of a deck of cards. The squeezable, adorable animals will enchant little ones with their “smarts” from hearing a song to reading a story to playing a game. I have two boys who would love this bear! Both are very much into stories right now. My older of the two never stops singing so I know he would like surfing the catalog of songs available to us. I find the ability to change what is on the bear as your child grows the best feature. I would load various stories so my child could read a long out of books. I would also load learning songs for phonics and counting. What a great product.
