Music For Little Ears: All Roads Lead to Sesame Street Playground

The children’s division of Putumayo World Music, Putumayo Kids, has released a darling CD called Sesame Street Playground.

This is a two disc set that has 13 songs from Brazil, France, China, India, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, Palestine, Russia, South Africa, U.S.A, and Tanzania, accompanied by five DVD music videos.

It is so touching to listen to these songs and watch the videos, realizing that children from all over the globe are getting early childhood education through watching Sesame Street in their own native language.

Having lived in Beijing several years ago, my favorite song from Sesame Street Playground is Zhima Jie, or Rubber Ducky, sung by Ernie in Chinese!

The songs are performed by favorite Sesame Street Muppet characters like Elmo, Big Bird and Snuffleupagus, as well as new characters especially developed for the overseas markets.

A variety of languages are represented in these fun, upbeat tunes. Sesame Street Playground really is a jewel of a CD!

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, puts the proceeds it receives from sales of its products right back into Sesame Street and its other projects for children at home and around the world
A portion of the sales of Sesame Street Playground will benefit Sesame Workshop productions in more than 100 countries.
Sesame Street Playground is the first globally distributed Sesame Workshop release featuring these international productions of Sesame Street.
What a great way to introduce kids to other countries and cultures!
It is so beneficial for children of all ages to have exposure to other languages. We have long known that music helps kids build brain power, but don’t forget that music is also something FUN that you and your children can enjoy together!

Watch this video of the theme song from Sesame Street in India, Gali Gali Sim Sim! Below I have included some of the lyrics translated into English. You can view all of the translated lyrics by downloading a PDF file on the Putumayo web site, here!

There’s talk in every street about this place
There’s excitement here;
Laughter fills everyone’s head
With or without a ticket,
Everyone can ride this caravan
Galli Galli Sim Sim

I am so excited to have TWO copies of Sesame Street Playground to giveaway from Putumayo Kids!

For your chance to win, visit the Sesame Street Playground page and tell me the title and country of another song from this special recording that you like! You can even listen to parts of the songs on the site!

*Contest Closed! Congrats to Kathleen (#11) and Allison (#98)!*

My favorite on this is “Kilimani Sesame,” the Tanzanian “Don’t Be Sad Song.” I want my kids to know that it’s okay to be sad, but life is better when we’re usually happy!
