I’m fairly positive that when I was a child I had no inkling of what “scatting” was, at least in how it related to music. My preschooler is lucky; he has been scatting all of his short live, and now that we have the Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey Oppenheim Toy Porfolio Award-winning CD by Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, his babble is validated and encouraged.Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey is a fun CD that serves up a feast of musical styles.
Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey introduces children to the of sounds of swingin’ Big Band music, rhytmic Polka, heart-felt Blues, comfortable Folk, toe-tappin’ Old Time Country and hip-swivelin’ Latin sounds. Besides an education rivaling a course in “Musical Styles 101″, Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey delivers clever lyrics that get kids exctied about tongue twisters, limericks, yodeling, and Pig Latin.
I love that Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey is a sampler of songs in genres that we might have never bought full CD’s of (we do not yet own any Polka CD’s) but we now see are enjoyable!
Take a listen to two of our favorite tracks:
Of course we are a pirate-loving family, so we were most excited about A Pirate’s Life.
Here is a video of Jojo interpreting A Pirate’s Life, with a surprise ending courtesy of 16-month-old Deeds.
Don’t worry, I was unharmed in the Christmas Tree attack. After Deeds pulled it down three times, I wised up and put a bowl of ornaments under the tree that he can dig through to his heart’s content.
Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey was released in 2005 and was a GRAMMY® Award Finalist in that year. It also won distinction as an American Library Association Notable Record and received the Parents’ Choice Gold Award.
Despite all of these accolades, it was a pirate-themed podcast that put Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey on my radar a few weeks ago!
Cathy and Marcy want to give TWO Mom Most Traveled readers a copy of Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey!
For one entry, look at the list of songs on Scat Like That: A Musical Word Odyssey and tell me another title that sounds intriguing!
For a second entry, listen to the A Pirate’s Life podcast, and tell me something you learned. Can’t think of anything? How about, “What is a Pirate’s favorite vegetable?”, or, “What materials do you need for a home-made pirate ship?” Be creative, and enjoy this fun podcast!
Two winners will be selected at random.
This giveaway is open to US residents.
This contest will close on December 11, 12 midnight.
*Contest closed! Congrats to Jennifer!*
