Salvation for Parents of Early Risers

Once upon a time there were two brothers. The youngest, (let’s call him “Deeds”), enjoyed sleeping. If he didn’t enjoy it, at least he accepted it as a fact of life. When his Mama or Papa told him is was nap time or bed time, he generally believed them and complied.

The older brother, (let’s call him “Jojo”), resisted sleep since his first day of life. He never willingly went to sleep, nor was he fully convinced that rising for the day before 5 AM was NOT a good idea.

As you might have guessed, this situation is not hypothetical. Jojo has never wanted to miss a thing, and sleeping routines have been a struggle from infant hood until now.

Like many parents, we tried to tell Jojo that he was not allowed to come wake Mama and Papa when the sun was not yet up. This was not effective because Jojo would check with us repeatedly, asking us to see if the sun was indeed “up” or not.

In a recent notable exploit, Jojo extricated Deeds from his crib at about 3 am. Both of them went outside and started riding tricycles in the driveway. Our neighbors woke up and noticed that, hey, there are kids playing in the driveway by themselves at 3 am. They actually kept an eye on them until my husband somehow woke up.

Do you have preschool sleep struggles? Here is your answer! My Tot Clock!

My Tot Clock is a mom invented miracle clock!

I’m talking about an all-in-one sleep aid, alarm clock, nightlight, and timer for children ages 2 and beyond.
Using an easy to understand color coded face, My Tot Clock lets kids know when it is sleeping time (blue light), when its time to get out of bed (yellow light), when it is time for a “time out” (red light), and a green light encourages them when it is time to do a chore or task like brushing teeth, sharing, or practicing piano!

The blue light has 5 levels of illumination, so you can dim it for use as a night light, or just turn it off entirely if your child likes to sleep in total darkness.

My Tot Clock also has a white noise feature that I was delighted to find is part of the standard Tot Clock product! We love using the sound of ocean waves to lull our family to sleep and block out disturbing noises.

The white noise is actually stored on little cartridges called Tot Clock Treasures. They include an 8-minute bedtime story, 5 lullabies, a fun wake song, and a white noise track.

My Tot Clock ships with the very first Treasure, “Welcome to Children’s Dreamland,” and you can purchase additional Treasures from the site if you like!

We love the peaceful moon and stars faceplate that comes with the Tot Clock, but if your child has other interests you can purchase a different faceplate design to coordinate with your decor.

Kids really respond to these visual cues, and Tot Clock is actually guaranteed to improve sleep, or you can get a refund:

We are so confident that your child will be sleeping better in 30 days that we offer a 100% money back guarantee.

See! Now that is confidence!
I was really struck by these toddler sleep statistics that My Tot Clock collected from over 300 survey respondents:

* Toddler Sleep Study Statistics (Ages 2 – 5)
o 70% of Toddlers Negotiate Before Going to Sleep
o 35% of Toddlers Sleep With Their Parents Part of the Night
o 20% of Toddlers Sleep With Their Parents All Night
o 50% of Toddlers Wake Up in the Middle of the Night
o 40% of Toddlers Wake Too Early on Weekdays
o 60% of Toddlers Wake Too Early on Weekends

And My Tot Clock can save tired Mamas and Papas everywhere from this terrible, sleepless cycle!

My Tot Clock is also great for travel because the timers and lights help you to maintain a consistent sleep and wake routine no matter where you are.

My Tot Clock is super awesome. Of course you want one of your own!

1.) To enter to win My Tot Clock (ARV $49.95), leave a comment here telling me your favorite My Tot Clock feature! (You may enter once a day - subsequent entries don’t require you to answer the question).

Please don’t just comment with “Enter me” or “Sounds great”. That totally annoys me. Those entries are not eligible to win.

One winner will be chosen at random.

This giveaway is open to those with a US mailing address.

2) BONUS ENTRY: Leave me a comment with your finest “bad sleeper sob story”!

*Contest closed, congrats to number 117, Andrea V!

This contest will close May 27, 2009, 11:59 CST.

Lucy has yet to sleep a whole night through and she is two and a half. Even when she had mono, no luck. She wakes up every few hours and the same thing for naptime. I have tried everything, well except the Tot Clock, it has restored my hope that a night of restful sleep is possible!

My story? Well, my daughter is a decent sleeper, but she’s an early riser. I started waking up an hour or two earlier than my family so that I could get some time to myself (it was the only way!) and wouldn’t you know it? She decided she should wake up earlier, too! Unbelievable.

My sad sob story is that my daughter didn’t stay and sleep in her own bed all night until she was 6 years old. When our son was born we said she HAD to stay in her own bed. Sadly, our son then became the one who wouldn’t stay in his bed all night. How we got such bad sleepers, I don’t know. Fortunately, letting him pick out new paint for his room, a new big boy bed and bedding seemed to do the trick.

Wow! There isn’t a feature of the Tot Clock that I don’t like. I wish I had had this with my own children! I have a grandson that still needs this sort of thing and I think he would respond great to it. Since the first thing he needs is to know when he can get up . He ends up in his parents bed because there is no way for him to know what time it is so I really appreciate this feature of the tot clock.

My favorite feature is that you can adjust the brightness of the light. With it being to aid in creating good habits, especially good sleeping habits, I think that is a must because too bright of a light at nap/sleep time will have your baby (or I should say MY baby) up faster than the telephone deciding to ring.

My worst story? My stepson, Dominick, who never went to sleep before midnight. We finally broke him of this by putting a tv in his room, with the dial broken. We could turn it on, and adjust the volume, but that was it. The soothing buzz of the white noise in those days, lulled him to sleep, while the screen showed enough light to make him comfortable, without keeping him awake. Before we did this, my ex-wife and I could count on being disturbed between 8 and ten times between bedtime and 1 a.m.

My sob story: Our son is 20-months old, and has slept in his crib about five times total. I know, we hear the chastising all of the time… but truly, we tried many things to get him to stay in there. To make matters worse, my husband and I were scared for him to be in our bed (dad’s a deep sleeper) so we camped out on his bedroom floor!!! I wish I was kidding… We tried to convert the crib to a toddler bed, but even on the lowest setting it was too high (he likes to climb and was very prone to falling and getting hurt from that height). So, we gave the crib and changing table (again, he climbs, so the changing table was out of the room months ago) to my husband’s neice who is due any day, and we bought our little guy a toddler bed. So far, it’s going pretty good. He’s slept in it 7 out of 10 days! Woo hoo!

I already made my story public earlier in the contest. So let me take this opportunity to urge everyone to take a moment today, to honor the dead, fallen in their country’s service. Without those men and women, none of us would have a country in which to speak our minds, nor would we have the rights to freedom of religion, peaceable assembly, or the press, nor to petition our government for the redress of grievances. This has been Memorial Day.

This is such a great idea so many features on a clock.
My daughter and grandson are flying down to join me and my 2 teens for a 1300 mile car trip to visit relatives and drop my son off at camp. Riding in the car can be a handful with young grandson, this clock could give him time limits which he could see for himself.

I love the white noise feature. We used a white noise machine for our second boy and now they both require it to get to sleep. I am amazed at the many features this clock has - visual cues - for helping Moms and kids get on the same page! Great contest!

“…the sound of ocean waves to lull our family to sleep and block out disturbing noises” - that’s not a feature, that’s a future! Just that thought reminds me of the saying ‘A dream is a wish the heart makes…’ zzz ;)

The different colors are cool. Lets kids know when it is sleeping time (blue light), when its time to get out of bed (yellow light), when it is time for a “time out” (red light)
