Protect Those Wittle Eyes!
I am a huge advocate of sun protection. On a recent family beach trip, we all slathered up with SPF 50 every day. None of us were bronzed at the end of our trip, but we were protected from harmful UV rays.
I am also beginning to learn that it is important to protect young children’s eyes from UV radiation as well as their skin. I have been told that babies and children are actually more vulnerable to eye damage from UV rays because their young eyes are more transparent. UV radiation more easily passes through, leaving kids more susceptible to retinal damage. This retinal damage is cumulative, so that means that they should be protected as early as possible.
When I was a new mom, I paid too much for some plastic baby sunglasses at Baby Gap (sorry Baby Gap! I love your clothes!) When Jojo was just a few months old we went for a stroller ride over some dirt roads in Southeast Asia to go on a play date. After about 500 yards of plowing the stroller through sand, I noticed that the Expensive Sunglasses were missing. I retraced my steps, but they were gone. I was very embittered by the experience and swore to myself that baby sunglasses were a waste.
However, recently, I have discovered Baby Banz, and learned to love children’s eye wear again.

I like the Paradise Purple and Rockin’ Red. My little Lola could wear them so many places…when we go on walks/runs around the neighborhood, playing at the pool with her big sister, playing at the park with her dadday, playing in the yard with our Golden Retriever. She recently discovered Mommy’s sunglasses and tries to put those on all the time. I am worried she will poke herself in the eye, so these would be great for her!

I would love the flamingo pink kids banz for my daughter. We would use them when we go to visit her great grandparents at the lake (which is quite frequently during the summer). We discovered this weekend that she closes her eyes while on the boat and these sunglasses would make great little goggles for her to keep the wind out of her eyes.

I would choose sunset orange for my son. He would wear these everywhere! I have tried to get him to wear sunglasses every time we leave the house, but recently he has learned how to take them off and just sucks on them for a while and then drops them!

I love the Key Lime Green Kidz Banz. The elastic on my daughter’s current pair of sunglasses just broke the other day so we’re in the market for a new pair! We hit the playground or arboretum almost every day so she definitely needs something protecting her eyes.

My toddler wears his shades everywhere! I was just thinking yesterday that my 9 month old really needs a pair of these. I like the midnight black because he could wear them with almost anything anywhere! I like that these are adjustable on the side rather than the back. The cheap(er) pair that I bought at Target are hard to put on my little dude because they close in the back.

I am expecting a baby girl any day, so I would get the Paradise Purple in the baby size. And she would wear them… everywhere! I am a big believer in protecting eyes. I have blue eyes and have some problems because I didn’t when I was young.

Ooo, hard color decision! I think I’d go with the lime green for my 3-year-old. We spend LOTS of time at parks with water features, so he needs those shades to keep the rays out of his eyes.
