Path To Peace O Bracelet Giveaway

Macy’s and their Shop for a Better World program along with Willa Shalit and her company Fair Winds Trading, are doing great things through Path to Peace.

Path to Peace creates trade partnerships with artisans in recovering regions to bring the power of change to Rwanda and Indonesia by empowering women through a sustainable income provided by the sale of their fair trade crafts.

I wanted to become a Path to Peace ambassador because I have seen the difficult lives of women who have no options for education, training, and employment.

In countries where women do not enjoy the same social and economic freedom as men, they get “stuck” in some very bad situations.

They can’t escape an abusive marriage. They can’t escape poverty. They can’t provide a better life for their children. There just aren’t options.

It thrills me to know that by purchasing a beautiful item, like an O Bracelet (recently featured in O Magazine!), I am also helping a hardworking woman to gain financial independence.

I’m shopping for a better world!

Each bracelet in this series is hand-made by two women–a weaver in Rwanda and a jewelry artist in New Orleans.

Fair Winds Trading trained 250 urban women to create hand-crafted jewelry inspired by knots.

This work earns them nearly 14 times the national per capita income, affording them opportunities for their families in both nutrition and education.

Learn even more about Path to Peace via their Facebook Page (Path2Peace), or the Fair Winds Trading Flickr page.

I am deeply honored to have the chance to give away an O Bracelet to one Mom Most Traveled reader. I don’t know what it will look like, but I do know that it will have been hand made in Rwanda AND Nawlins, with a retail value of about $42 USD.

It’s really a toss-up between the Rwanda Afropop necklace (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=404024&CategoryID=40913) or the Rwanda Square Tote, Climbing Print (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=403911&CategoryID=39174).
