One Last Word About Swag

Okay, I’m sure some of you are sick of hearing about BlogHer ‘09. And this is the last time I will post about the swag. Maybe.

SWAG is supposed to stand for Stuff We All Get. Although I like to say it like “SCHWAG”. So that could stand for…?

I just want to make it clear that you SHOULDN’T go to BlogHer just to get free stuff. There are far easier ways to get stuff for free. For example entering and winning tons of blog contests. See?

Let me share the highs and lows.

Most useful swag:

Backpack from LandsEnd, a t-shirt and a coupon for a free pair of jeans from GAP, Protect-A-Bed matress cover and pillow cases, Energizer battery charger, lip balm that I am not allergic to (some of it I am!), and a SPIFE, part spoon part knife!

Tastiest swag:

Kiwi fruit, Brothers All Natural dried apples (from MommyDaddyBlog swag bag), Kelloggs Fiber Plus bars (also from MDB), Parents brand “puffs” toddler snacks that my boys have been gobbling up, Quaker Oat Squares cereal, Hershey’s Bliss chocolate.

Swag that the kids were most excited about:

LegoClub.com magazine, a Lego keychain, Mr. PotatoHead doll, scented Strawberry Shortcake figurine.

Swag that is hard to take home/ I had to abandon because of luggage issues:

Full size bottles of laundry detergent, bottles of drinks, apple sauce, jars of jelly, a roller shade to block the sun off of your baby while riding in the car

Swag that made me crack up laughing:

Go Girl (I didn’t actually get one of these, and that is TOTALLY fine), the bobblehead doll (didn’t get one of those either).

Swag that made me die a little on the inside:

A, *ahem* personal massager shaped like a rabbit.

Swag that was a waste of resources:

Pamphlets, a ziplock bag of eye shadow powder, tons of condoms from Planned Parenthood (at a women’s blogging conference? Really?)

Swag Jealousy Moment:

Seeing Naomi and Kathleen’s cool loot from SocialLuxe.

Touching Swag Moment:

Kathleen gifting me with slippers she knitted for me.

Swag Rejection:

Seeing my MMT orange reusable gift bag on the “recycle” table in the Expo hall. I quickly grabbed it and gifted it to the people at the Playskool booth.

The MomSelect suite had some of the SUITE-EST swag! I loved the AdoraPet DVD, Build-a-Bear Workshop Bears, CharcoCaps, Cultural Care Au Pair Memory Card Game, Cystex, Easy Mac Cup, ItzaBitza DVD Game, Lands’ End BackpackNo-Slip Grippies that I was able to get!

And there you have it. The scoop on swag.

It was really nice meeting you and thanks for the MMT swag! I brought your orange bag home because it has your logo on it and because your swag is the only one I received from a fellow blogger. I missed the SocialLuxe party completely. So bummed by the delayed flight.

I like this post and how you divided it up. I like the honesty in your writing style. I still wish I could have met you. I ADORE the Laos book you gave Kathleen, now that would have been worth the trip!

I, for one, am glad you picked a small sized orange swag bag…hello? Halloween treats, anyone? Perfect for my preschooler!

Great post on the different types of swag… What is with that Go Girl?? Although I could have used that in Turkey… they just had a hole in the ground, no toilet, it would have come in handy! :-)
    Have a great weekend…..
