My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics on DVD

PhotobucketHooray! A new release from Scholastic Video! My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics: Preschool Stories is a collection of SEVEN DVD’s that bring to life fifty different award winning children’s books.

This wonderful collection will be available for sale starting March 31!
These disc titles make up the My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics: Preschool Stories collection:
* Corduroy…and More Stories About Friendship
* Good Night, Gorilla…and More Great Sleepytime Stories
* Harold and the Purple Crayon…And More Stories To Spark Your Imagination
* Is Your Mama A Llama… And More Classic Children’s Stores
* Knuffle Bunny…And More Great Childhood Adventure Stories
* The Ezra Jack Keats Collection
* There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly…And More Sing-Along Favorites

Some of the stories in this collection are familiar from our childhood years, such as Corduroy (the adorable bear with the missing button!), Here Comes the Cat, Happy Birthday Moon (the adorable bear who talks to the moon), Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, The Snowy Day, and Whistle for Willie!

I also fell in love with some new-to-me stories in the My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics: Preschool Stories collection, particularly the ones on the Knuffle Bunny disc, which includes of course Knuffle Bunny, by Mo Willems, narrated by Mo Willems (the animation and voices are absolutely adorable…view a 3 minute clip here), Shrinking Violet, by Cari Best, narrated by Callista Flockheart, Possum Magic by Mem Fox, Planting a Rainbow, written and illustrated by Lois Ehlert, Brave Irene by William Steig, narrated by Lindsay Crouse, and Will I Have A Friend by Miriam Cohen, narrated by David de Vries.

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly is another unique and wonderful disc in the collection, featuring musical stories. The title song is preformed by Cyndi Lauper! Other fun tunes are “Frog Went A-Courtin’,” “Over in the Meadow,” “Giraffes Can’t Dance,” and “Dem Bones“.

The pace of these animations is very subtle but enough to capture your child’s interest. The stories in this collection were selected to appeal to children ages 2 to 6.
When possible, I try to buy the books to accompany the DVD’s we have to enhance the “reading experience.”
A great feature of these DVD’s is that you can choose to display captions which turn highlight each word as it is spoken by the narrator.
So, it really is the next best thing to having a human read aloud to your child, pointing to each word as it is sounded out.
My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics: Preschool Stories are DVD’s you can allow your child to watch WITHOUT any mommy guilt!

It warms my heart to see my children (and sometimes their visiting friends) enthralled by the wholesome stories like Leo the Late Bloomer, Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin, Elizabeti’s Doll (narrated by Lynn Whitfield), Rosemary Wells’s Nosy Nora,or Goose, narrated by Laura Dern.

As a parent and an educator by training, I cannot recommend the videos in this series highly enough! If you are struggling with the decision, skip the mainstream licensed character films and choose quality, educational entertainment from Scholastic Video!

Besides we don’t have cable so these would really come in handy. My daughter right now is having me read Goodnight Gorilla every day at nap. She would love this.

I really love almost all of these books from my childhood. This DVD set really excites me. I am a complete book junkie and I really hope that is something that gets passed down to my little girl. I think these DVDs would be great to share with her, because it would really bring the stories to life and I think make reading even more exciting.

    Thank you for this opportunity!

I REALLY love that you can turn on captioning and that it highlights the words! My son and DIL have four children from beginning readers down to toddlers and this would be fantastic for them. It would allow the older children to “read” along while the youngest ones are entertained by the stories. How fantastic is that!
