Big Round World is a fun collection of kid-friendly songs written by the talented duo called Trout Fishing In America.
If kids could write their own CD about topics of their choice, Big Round World would be it. In fact, that is exactly what bassist Keith Grimwood and guitarist Ezra Idlet hoped to do with Big Round World. They held song writing workshops with groups of clever children, and used their input and inspiration to write some really catchy tunes!
Look what followed me home, home from the zoo
It’s a great big tiger and a monkey, too.
They’re the best of friends, friends since they were babies long ago.
Hey look what followed me home, they look hungry can I feed ‘em?
They’re so cute. I wonder can I keep ‘em?
We’ll be the best of friends, a tiger and a monkey and me
“A Tiger and a Monkey and Me” is one of my favorite songs on Big Round World, and was the result of a workshop in Seattle!
The song about My Favorite Jeans totally speaks to me; it was written in collaboration with a 4rth grade class in Arizona.
My favorite jeans are getting old and tight.
I wear them every day and I wash them at night.
They’ve got holes in the knees, thinning at the thighs
I don’t care if they’re not my size.
I kind of wondered if My Favorite Jeans might actually be a song about me…
Trout Fishing in America really know what they are doing! Their musical talent has earned them three Grammy nominations. This folk-pop comedy duo does life performances that appeal to people of all ages.
There are lots of clever, silly songs included in the 14 tracks on Big Round World, but also some songs that address more serious subjects, such as There’s a Rumor Going ‘Round, which compares a rumor to a monster, and a sweet tribute song written with a group of California elementary school students, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.
Big Round World would be lots of fun for little ears at home, in the car, or in the classroom!
Trout Fishing in America is giving away a copy of Big Round World to two Mom Most Traveled Readers!
To enter, leave a comment here telling me what the child in your life would be most likely to write a song about!
TWO winners will be chosen at random.
This giveaway will close on November 8, 12 midnight CST.

08 November 2008, 5:17 am
My younger son has fixated on a specific Country Music station on the radio, and has essentially memorized all their “the usual song list” songs — and dances around singing mixed-up portions from a whole bunch of different songs, laughing wildly (which usually triggers the whole bunch of us to laughing)… And the best part is that if we throw him a word, he’ll usually manage to weave it in using some off-the-wall chunk of legitimate lyrics — he’s extremely cool!
08 November 2008, 5:31 am
We’ve actually seen Trout Fishing perform, at least once here locally at a toy store — awesomely funny, as much for the adults as for the kids… I think my older son would probably write something about braces and how it isn’t right to eat deer meat (that was the weirdest discussion-in-the-car we’ve had in awhile)…
Aha!! Or maybe (focusing wider) how about “weird-discussions-in-the-car”, in the sense of “the-conversation-that-got-lost-on-its-way-and-wound-up-out-in-left-field”?? Also, “Captive-audience-to-parental-stories” has been done (”five miles to school, uphill both ways”) but there’s more, you KNOW there’s more…

I digged… dugg?… did digg this post, with a title mentioning “Trout Fishing In America”, in the Music category, under my ID “flared0ne” — I was looking for some kind of numeric ID, or a URL-like link, but no sign — hope this is sufficient…
