This blog post is going to involve talk about The Menses. You know…Aunt Flo? The Monthly Visitor?
You have been warned.
There was a time when I might have balked at the idea of reusable menstrual pads, but 4 years of cloth diaper washing has helped me to see the light.
To disclose even more personal information, between 2 pregnancies and a total of 4 years of breastfeeding, I got quite used to not being bothered by Aunt Flo.
When she finally returned after a 5 year absence, I was appalled by the amount of disposable pads and tampons I was going through to tame the beast.
When using cloth pads, I just followed the same protocol as when I washed cloth diapers: soak if needed, then wash with regular laundry using a gentle soap.
Really it isn’t that different from the usual laundry havoc that Aunt Flo triggers; even when using disposables, she is known for leaving her mark in undesirable places. I know most of us have “period panties” that we sacrifice for those gruesome days.
How is this for improvement? Lunapanties have a Fleece gusset panel with soft, cotton bands for holding Liner Inserts.
Lunapanties come in fashionable (non-granny) styles like bikini, hipster, briefs, and thong (I’m not ready for that).
Lunapanties come with one Maxi Liner.
Obvious benefits of Lunapanties: these are made from breathable fabric so you don’t get that yucky feeling that comes from wearing a plastic pad.
Lunapads and Lunapanties don’t make crinkly sounds when you move, like giant diaper.
The Earth benefits when you ditch the disposables, and YOU benefit because you aren’t exposing your body to harmful chemicals, and you save money over time, too.
http://lunapads.com/ are all about giving you the tools for an “Eco-positive period”.
I was given a pair of Lunapanties and a Maxi Liner as a part of a blog tour with http://greenandcleanmom.org/ and http://lunapads.com/.
In May, there will be an Lunapanties #ecowed twitter party, which usually means prizes! Woot!
#ecowed happens every Wednesday night on twitter.
