Lego Magic

Keeping the difficulties of the economy in mind, I started on a search for toys with staying power.

I wanted to find classic toys that aren’t marketed to a one gender or the other.

This led to my rediscovering Lego.

Lego bricks have existed as we know them since 1958, and have been made from the same material since 1963.

Parents and educators love Lego because they are virtually indestructible, and they promote creativity and problem solving skills.

Lego are also appealing to children and adults of all ages. Even before my oldest child showed much interest in building, my husband got extremely excited when my childhood collection of Lego were unearthed from storage. He scoured the Internet and found Lego blueprints so that he and our son could build things “together”. (We all know who did the building that time).

Some might say that Lego sets are expensive, but I consider them a worthy investment.

They last forever, and really, one can never truly outgrow Lego.

LegoWhile my 30 year old Lego bricks are still in perfect condition (except for a few teeth marks, courtesy of my younger brother and his friends), Lego is continually adding terrific new building sets and accessories to their product line.

I want to collect them all!

The LEGO CITY line has a totally new Construction Site theme with neat vehicles like the yellow Dump Truck.
It has that same classic Lego appeal but with cool new additions like a LEGO minifigure (and his darling wee shovel), road signs, LEGO rocks (we love them because they open!), and round LEGO pieces.

The Dump Truck set retails for $19.99 and is recommended for ages 5 and older.

LEGO has so many neat products; I was browsing their online store and found lots of Valentine gift ideas! I see this cool watch in Jojo’s future!

To enter for your chance to win the LEGO CITY Dump Truck set, browse the new products for 2009 and comment here with something that caught your eye!

No copycat comments please, and FYI, the Dump Truck not an acceptable response.

One winner will be chosen at random.

This giveaway is open to US residents.

This contest will close on February 14th, 12 midnight CST!

*Congrats to the winner, Monica!*

Why oh why do all the Lego sets have to be geared towards boys? I have a daughter who loves Legos but it’s so hard to find a set she likes. I would have to go with the farm since it’s the most gender neutral one.

Legos have been in our home 22 years now. My oldest age 25 down to our next to youngest age 6 and all of us inbetween have been known to sit for hours with the massive collection we have. I myself love the new indiana jones legos while our 6 yo loves the starwars sets!! Legos are just SO cool and fun for the whole family!!
