After dinner I suggested that we go to a local bakery for dessert, and my husband agreed.
Once enroute, I turned around and saw Jojo looking thoughtfully out of the back seat window.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked him.
“I’m just THINKING,” he mumbled. Then after a pause, “I want Papa to come to Alabama. I’m going to miss him.”
My husband nodded sympathetically, and a lump welled up in my throat.
Oh, darlin’.
We are spending the summer away from Papa as he works overseas.
I wanted to say something comforting to my 4-year-old son Jojo, who has already expressed this exact sentiment several times.
But before I could compose myself, he spoke again.
“And I want some roller skates.”
Kids!
They certainly have a way of keeping you in the present…
P.S., anyone have a lead on a pair of roller skates?

Awww, that is so cute. Breaks your heart a little and then you can’t help but laugh at the roller skate comment.
I didn’t know you guys weren’t staying together over the summer. [Or I forgot?] I wish you lots of long distance love!!

That is so sweetly funny. That Jojo is such a cute kid.
Speaking of roller skates, would you believe our town park has a free roller rink? It opens this week and is open every Thursday and Saturday evening for plein air skating. I need to find me some skates too, Jojo!
