HOT On The Range
Author R.D. Jentsch graciously sent me a copy of Hot on the Range, her first published work.
Hot on the Range is an enjoyable children’s story about a a paint horse named Chester and his quest to escape the hot Texas weather.
Having grown up in Alabama and lived in Laos for several years, I KNOW what it is like to be HOT (but not HOT on the Range).
R.D. Jentsch writes as one very in tune with the animals on the range. She has an expertise in deciphering the thoughts of Chester and the other animals with whom he interacts.
Hot on the Range is not cheesy or condescending at all; it is a real book about a real horse. I think children respond to that.
Hot on the Range is a pleasant read, and a good choice for young horse fans.

My son would love this book. My parents have a ranch in Oregon that we visit regularly and he always talks about wanting a horse. Anytime there is an event in town with pony rides, he HAS to do it!
