I’m teaching preschool full time now, and MUSIC is a fun and exciting part of our play time.
I have two children in my class who excitedly ask me every day if we can turn on the music.
Once I oblige, they dance and scamper about with some nice flowing scarves that I added to the home corner of the class.
We also like to play “freeze dance” and other musical movement games. During snack time, I pick a relaxing sound track to serenade us as we eat.
Music is a welcome part of my school day, and of course as the adult present, I want the music to have appeal for the children but not drive me crazy with kiddie-ness.
Thankfully, these days, quality childrens tunes abound!
Eat A Bowl Of Cherries, from Rhythm Child, is (naturally) infused with rhythm and dance-inducing.
I am one of those Mamas who has a basket of percussion instruments right in our living room.
My brother is a musician (and a drummer too), and I want to give my children an outlet for their musical talent (hey, sometimes these things are genetic.)
So we love the songs on Eat A Bowl Of Cherries!
Shaker Song, perfect, we have a shaker!
Riding On The Bus, Deeds is my resident bus fanatic! Misunderstandings, what do you mean? (Haha!)
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, will this word indeed make me sound precocious? Or just weird?
Eat A Bowl Of Cherries, the title track, is also included on Putumayo Picnic, another favorite around here.

Charlie Hope’s beautiful album, I’m Me! A Collection of Songs for Children, is a real gem in my CD collection.
Charlie Hope’s voice reminds me of Ingrid Michaelson, and I think some of these songs could easily pass as grown-up on an indie rock station.
I like the mix of traditional songs and Charlie Hope’s own originals.
“We’re Having A Baby” is a favorite, upbeat track of mine, except that, being a sentimental Mama, it is wont to trigger tears for me. Which is kind of embarrassing when the kids are obliviously doing scarf dances.
Other stand-out faves on I’m Me! A Collection of Songs for Children are Mr. Sun, and Two Little Blackbirds, but honestly this is one of those rare albums where I don’t have an “unfavorite” song.
Also exciting? The CD liner notes are in the form of a coloring book. How fun!
Check CharlieHopeMusic.com or the Charlie Hope Facebook Page for more from this great artist!
“I’m Me!” won a silver Parent’s Choice Award!

Rebecca Frezza & Big Truck, a children’s music group with music videos on The Channel Formerly Known As Noggin and PBS KIDS, are releasing Rockin’, Rollin’ and Ridin’ on November 10th.
Rockin’, Rollin’ and Ridin’ really brings it with a host of talented musicians; what a great thing that children and be introduced to all kinds of different instruments and sounds instead of being faked out with digi keyboards.
Rockin’, Rollin’ and Ridin’ features Roscoe Orman, AKA “Gordon” from Sesame Street - as guest artist. Props for that, I haven’t seen Maria doing an album. Bob? What about you? Susan? Hmm?
Rockin’, Rollin’, and Ridin’ is 23 minutes long, with six new Rebecca Frezza songs and two special remixes and a bonus video!
The retail price for Rockin’, Rollin’, and Ridin’ is a mere $8.99!

Go Waggaloo is a mostly-folksy album by Sarah Lee Guthrie and Family. Sarah Lee is the granddaughter of Woody Guthrie, “the family” refers to her husband Johnny Irion, their two young daughters, and friends including Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Tao Rodriguez Seeger.
Most of the tracks are comfortable folk that makes you want to “set a spell”, but hidden amogst these are a few surprises, like Big Moon, on which some turn table scratches and other R&B-esque sampled noises abound.
If Mama Had Four Hands is a little late 60’s rock, complete with background hand claps!
The album includes three songs featuring lyrics by Woody Guthrie never before put to music and eight songs written by Sarah Lee and family.
Go Waggaloo is a fun listen, and I can only imagine that catching one of the live performances on The Guthrie Family Rides Again Tour would be a great family event!
I’m excited that some of the dates are close to my neck of the woods! Let me post them!

New to your blog. Happy to find it. I think “Rockin’, Rollin’ and Ridin’ ” would be great for my kids. I have a 1 yr old who is really starting to groove to the music, and a 3 yr old who is loving to sing along when she knows the song. I’m trying to give them high quality tunes, but sometimes it’s hard to find something that won’t drive me nuts.

I’d love to win “Rockin’, Rollin’ and Ridin’” for my son. He’s a bit music fan- it’s often one of his first words in the morning, indicating he wants the radio turned on. We’ve been watching “Jack’s Big Music Show” and he seems to love all the different types of music.

Did I mention I’d love to win I’m Me! A Collection of Songs for Children?
At this point, a lot of his music collection is Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants or VERY kiddie nursery rhymes and such. This would be a great addition to widen his horizons by such a fantastic group of performers!

We love the Eat a Bowl of Cherries song (we also have Picnic Playground). I’ll have to look into getting the cd, as I had no idea who the group was. You’d think it was hard just reading the playlist on Picnic Playground.

First of all, I only recently stumbled across your blog and love it. I like I’m Me! A Colleccion of Songs for Children because both my toddler and I already love many of the songs and we are desperately looking for an addition to all that Raffi!!

Our household loves music too! I have two girls, ages 5 and 2 with another one on the way (Christmas!), and they truly could listen to music and dance all day. I much prefer non-commercial music (no Disney, Nick Jr., etc.), and absolutely love the 2 albums you’re giving away. I would enjoy either one because they are both filled with rhythmic music, set to meaningful lyrics. I’ll post again with how much we appreciate your reviews and sharing this opportunity.

Wow, they both sound like great CD’s for kdis to listen to. I think I’ll chose the Charlie Hope I’m Me! A Collection of Songs for Children.
We always have music on in the house for the kids. I don’t think they realize it somedays. We play jazz and sometimes I’ll catch them dancing to it and not realizing it.
