Did you know that March 2nd-9th is National Recess Week?
Recess Week emphasizes encouraging kids to get up and get moving. When I was a kid, recess was just plain FUN. We weren’t thinking about burning calories or building muscle, but that is exactly what is happening when little ones skip, run, and dance around!
Putumayo Kids is has some wonderful world music CD’s with infectious beats for wild and free impromptu family dance sessions, and to celebrate Recess Week, Putumayo Kids is giving away a collection of 3 CD’s from the Playground series!
The first CD in the series, World Playground, was released in 1999 and was my introduction to the treasure trove of Putumayo Kids offerings. I borrowed it from the library over a year ago and I still find myself singing the chorus to Fatou Yo , a tune from Senegal, every now and then.
It is hard to resist the urge to groove when you listen to songs from Jamaica, Brazil, Congo, and a half-dozen other exotic locations.
The Mom Most Traveled family has also enjoyed Sesame Street Playground and Hawaiian Playground. Having these CD’s is like a cultural music buffet. I just pick what to serve according to my mood.
Putumayo Kids has more in the works for the Playground series! In May we can look forward to the release of European Playground and Picnic Playground in July.
A “Putumayo Presents Picnic Playground” concert tour is planned for this summer too; that sounds like a good time to me!
Putumayo Kids is the children’s and educational division of Putumayo World Music, with a goal of introducing children to other cultures through music. Putumayo Kids is a truly global record label, with millions of CDs sold in more than 100 countries around the world.
To enter to win a collection of THREE Putumayo Kids Playground series CD’s including World Playground and two surprise selections, browse the Putumayo Kids catalog.
Leave a comment here with the name of a Putumayo Kids CD that you would like to listen to, not mentioned in this post.
For a second entry, leave a separate comment about how you might celebrate National Recess Week with your family.
One winner will be chosen at random to recieve this wonderful prize, a $45 value!
This contest is open to those with a US mailing address.
This giveaway will close on 11:59 pm CST, March 11, 2009.
