I miss my days as an art student, when professors taught me how to do interesting things such as making a stained glass window, developing my own photos, and drawing a naked mannequin.
Actually I didn’t like drawing class.
I always wanted to take classes in print making and fiber arts, but time ran out.
It is exciting to me that Jacquard makes artisan-quality kits available to us common people. The Hoop Painting Fun Bag (ARV $13.99) is full of professional-quality supplies for painting silk hoops, which can be used as sun catchers or as beautiful wall art.
It is an affordable and non-intimidating kit that everyone from beginner to pro can enjoy!
The kit contains:
* 3 100% Silk Hoops - 9 1/2″
* 3 Dye-Na-Flow colors (non-toxic and can be cleaned up with water)
* 2 Brushes
* Permanent Metallic Resist
* Silk Salt
* Tips & Techniques
With three hoops, you can experiment with different techniques, like the resist technique (used to create defined sections of color), the salt technique (used to create starburst effects), the sunprinting technique (using sunlight to create impressions), or the watercolor technique (used to blend colors seamlessly).
The three Dye-Na-Flow colors (red, blue and yellow) can be mixed to create any color you like. Besides the fun of experimenting, kids get a great lesson from the trial and error of “creating” colors.
At www.jacquardproducts.com, there are lots of great kits for all ability levels and a wide variety of creative interests.
Some other bloggers have tried their hand at the Hoop Painting Fun Bag as well. I thought Katydid and Kid did a great job with her whimsical robots (I’m so inspired for my boys’ room!), and Ladybug Soup made a cute ladybug on one hoop and a Christmas tree on the other.

The tiger is so cute! Did one of your boys do that, or did you? I think it would look great in their bedroom.
