I think one of the major lessons of motherhood is that every second of every day can be a “teachable moment”.
What was once a bowl of breakfast cereal now becomes a treatise on geometry; a simple walk to the mailbox is transformed into a horticulture seminar.
I suppose the folks at Boon agree, judging by their Bug Pod bath
toy scoop, drain, and storage!
This is bath fun you only wish had been invented when you were a kid. An oh-so-cute ladybug stuffed to the brim with playthings sits unobtrusively in the shower until bath time. Dump out the Bath Goods,
and a sort of Pop Art extravaganza ensues.
Forget mere splashing around in tepid water— this is an exercise in creativity and fun.
Foam shapes that have no name, whose colors are too unique to be labeled, encourage kids to do their own thing.
Although Buckley’s a little too young to go Warhol on us, she loved to touch, wave, chew on, and stick the Bath Goods to the wall. The foam pieces adhere easily once wet and are no trouble for tiny fingers to remove should they be inspired.
Before you know it, a bath is not only a whole lot more fun, it’s an art lesson, too.
All this would be nice but a bit much if it weren’t for the practical design of the Bug Pod. This portable ladybug sticks, screws, or suctions onto your shower wall (we chose the sticky method after a few suction collapses) in just one step.
The “wings” of the insect serve as a carrier for the foam shapes, balls, and loofah, and it is removed simply for playtime access.
Then, when bath time is over, a few scoops are all it takes for a quick and easy clean-up.
The water drains out through the ladybug’s spots and allows your toys to air dry for next time.
No fishing around in dirty bath water, no sopping sleeves, and, best of all, even the most astute child doesn’t realize their toys are being taken away, because it’s just so darn fun.

My kids love bath time! Just about anything works for them - bath toys, bath crayons, empty bottles and containers to fill and empty, etc. Recently, their fave thing has been to “bathe” their dolls while they are in the tub. My youngest still dislikes having water poured over her head, though

This bug pod is the cutest! My 14 month-old is just starting to really enjoy bath time. What works for me is I make up a couple ice cube trays of ice colored brightly with food coloring drops in a big bag in my freezer. Come bath time, I take a few cubes out and let him play with the colorful, melting ice in the bath. Right now he just likes to hold it in his hand under the water and watch it melt, but he gets such a kick out of it and it leaves the water a pretty color (but not so much that it stains him!)

07 May 2009, 4:51 pm
My so love to play with his little rubber animals. If I give him containers we end up with too much water on the floor though.
07 May 2009, 7:47 pm
I always find bath time to be so much fun!! There’s lots of toys and splashing involved. Since the only part my kids don’t like is the rinsing of the hair, I count to 20 in Spanish or German (with each small bucket of water) to teach my kids to count in a foreign language and to distract them as I rinse their hair.
07 May 2009, 8:29 pm
All my kids need during their bath are their cups…for dumping on each others head, waterfall, watering the bathroom floor….My daughter loves her barbies too especially the hair color changing one.

We’re still in a baby bathtub (our house only has a shower — long story) so compact toys are what works for us. We have stackable measuring cups that I hang on a hook for her to pour with, and I use them to help wash her hair…then we have a simple fishing game with a net that also goes on a hook. The bug pod looks a little deluxe for us but I’m dying to see what she’d do with it! Those weird shapes have to be fun…
I don’t know if there’s been anything that *didn’t* work with baths (despite the fact she doesn’t have a lot of toys, she doesn’t seem to get bored) — the main issue, of course, is getting out. Right now she seems to be okay with having to see if her toes are wrinkled and if they are, it’s time to get out. Don’t know how long that will last, though!

My daughter loves taking a bath, as long as there are lots of toys. Hair-washing is another matter - she has always hated it. Finally we got a bathtime face shield that slips on over her forehead and keeps her face and ears dry when we pour water over her hair. That has helped some. This toy holder is a really great idea. Thanks for the chance!

Very neat. Really, almost anything works for my kids at bath time. They love the water. But they particularly like any sort of squeezy toy that sucks up water and squirts it back out again :).
09 May 2009, 2:30 am
actually, my kids really prefer the shower. it’s weird, i know, as they’re both under 3. but it works pretty well for us.
09 May 2009, 2:31 am
One thing that works for bathtime is an organic baby wash with a pump top. I love not having to juggle the bottle - and knowing that the product is safe for my kids.
What doesn’t work for me right now are those bath squirters. My kids love them but I go through them constantly because we can’t seem to get all of the water out and they get yucky. I’d love to find some tips for cleaning squirters safely!

I’ve learned that i can no longer leave my 2 alone in the bathtub for more than 30 seconds or I will walk back into a mini pond on my bathroom floor. Their all-time favorite toys are anything from the kitchen. It keeps them busy for ever.
09 May 2009, 4:28 am
what works: h20, a ladybug puppet sponge, rubber ducky toys
what doesn’t: not allowing enough time for sufficient SPLASHING!
09 May 2009, 4:43 am
Sarah @ Mom Balance brings up a good point — another reason there are probably so many of us trying to win these toys — so many toys are squirt toys, and while they are fun I can’t shake the feeling they are not good because of the mold. I like that these are foam.
My daughter received a couple of those little plastic squirting toys as a gift, and I was taken aback when they started squirting nasty stuff out. I tried hot water and soap, hot water and vinegar, exposure to sunlight, but I could still see the marks left by the mold when I held it up to the light. The thing that seemed to work most efficiently was bleach, but I really don’t want her to be squirting any leftover bleach residue in her bath water, either…so for the moment we’ve repurposed those squirtable toys for the sandbox. They’re fun to push around and hide…

My niece loves to play with the foam toys that you wet and stick to the tub. To be thrifty my sister bought craft foam and cut out her own designs insead of buying the expensive ones. My niece loves them.

5/12 Entry Thanks

My 2 year old would sit in the tub all day if I let him. Our current ‘toy catcher’ is just a basket that we picked up at the dollar store. And it sucks. This would be far more practical and probably a whole lot more fun too!

She loves to play with baking soda in the tub–and it gets her and the tub clean at the same time!
13 May 2009, 4:11 pm
My 6 year old daughter has to have her 3 cups of bath toys because she never knows what she wants to play with and my 7 month old daughter is just now starting to take quick baths in the “big girl” tub and all she has to have is her feet and maybe a light up rubber ducky. Thanks so much for such a wonderful giveaway!

My son is super picky about the water temperature, but once I get it right, he’s happy as a bug.

My daughter likes bathtime. Lots of toys needed though! She HATES water in her face however! Thanks

It’s so much fun to see their little imaginations go wild in the bath tub. Seems like as soon as they hit the water their imaginations just bloom as they go into an imaginary play world. Thanks for the great contest!!!
13 May 2009, 10:12 pm
lots of toys
13 May 2009, 11:55 pm
Kids always used to love with water where ever that was. And if they get toys no confusion that they are not going to play but in pics the kid is sooo sweet
14 May 2009, 12:08 am
Once my son was old enough, we let the kids bathe together and they really entertain each other.
14 May 2009, 10:55 am

My Thursday afternoon entry!
14 May 2009, 8:18 pm
What works: we have a plastic sieve we pour water in to make a “shower” to wash their hair. Plastic bottles for them to pour. Bubbles/
What doesn’t — keeping the water in the bathtub!! Letting them help themselves to the shampoo. And definitely not 3 kids at once!
14 May 2009, 8:28 pm
we have to make it fun or it just won’t work, lol. we stuck decals on the ceiling for rinsing hair - “tell mommy what you see on the ceiling”
14 May 2009, 9:26 pm
My daughter loves being able to splash in the tub so we don’t have much of a problem with bath time. However, we did find out the baby bath tubs don’t work for us.

Bubbles work for us. Actually my daughter loves baths and is usually trying to climb in the tub before I can get her clothes off. She is definitely a splasher!

what works for my kids’ bathtime: my ds would freak out whenever it was time to get his hair wet to wash it. i finally figured out that the water came out of the rinse cup too fast. now i use my daughters teapot to pour the water over his head. it comes out slower and he is a much happier little guy!

My newborns are pretty receptive right now, but can get upset if they get cold. I just put a washcloth soaked in the warm water over their bellies and it warms & calms them. This will be great once they start playing with toys in the tub. Thanks!

Wee Man has always LOVED bath time… his favorite toy was the plastic cup from coldstone… Lil Kiwi liked her first baths but then didn’t during the winter and we got tons of tub toys… What works now? well she loves bathtime now too AS LONG as we make sure the plastic cup from kids meal at a resturant is in the tub… I should have known from the first time around…
