For Little Ears: an African Dreamland and a Hawaiian Playground!

Putumayo Kids is one of my favorite sources for child-friendly world music selections.

I first encountered Putumayo Kids CD’s as a fabulous cultural and musical resource when I was researching teaching tools for use in an Early Learning program.

Hawaiian Playground was released this summer by Putumayo Kids and has found a permanent rotation in our daily commute soundtrack, although I do also aspire to have some kind of luau at my house, using Hawaiian Playground for background ambiance.

The ten tracks on Hawaiian Playground include both reggae and hula music, creating a laid-back, upbeat vacation vibe.

Ukuleles and steel guitars combine with harmonious, melodic vocals and kid-friendly lyrics to make Hawaiian Playground a treat for families to enjoy together.

You can go here to view a music video of a snappy ukelele track on Hawaiian Playground called Local to the Max. That song inspires me to write about my own experiences trying to be “local” in Laos. But I think my favorite song on Hawaiian Playground is Willie K’s “Holoholo Ka’a” !

If you want to hang on to those summery beach memories, pick up a copy of Hawaiian Playground before the first snowfall!

A portion of Putumayo’s proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to PACT (Parents And Children Together) Hawaii in support of its efforts to promote and support healthy individuals, families and communities!

If you need something to soothe a stubborn child to sleep, you might try a relaxing visit to African Dreamland.

African Dreamland is a collection of eleven exotic, cultural lullabies performed by artists from all over Africa, including Cameroon, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Mali.

It was a track from Senegal on the World Playground CD that first made me fall in love with Putumayo Kids music, and African Dreamland also captures the calm, contemplative style that I really appreciate for young children.

My favorite time to listen to African Dreamland is during quiet moments when everyone in the family is together, lost in their own thoughts.

African Dreamland is a fantastic addition to your child’s music library. What a wonderful way to get a peaceful music and a cultural lesson you can enjoy anytime!

A portion of proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to NextAid, a non-profit organization committed to developing and implementing innovative solutions to the challenges facing African children.

Putumayo Kids is giving away TWO copies of African Dreamland to TWO lucky Mom Most Traveled readers!

To enter, visit Putumayo Kids and comment here with the name of another selection from Putumayo Kids that you would like to know more about (there is A LOT of good stuff over there)!

TWO WINNERS will be chosen at random.

*Congrats to Heather of the EO and Julie!*

I really like Latin Playground and think my kids would, too. The music just sounds so happy and fun to dance to. I love Putumayo music in general! All kids should have a chance to listen to a wide variety of music. Thanks for this opportunity!

Oooh! I love Putumayo cds, I have a few and love them. And their website is great too, very festive and fun.
The upcoming Sesame Street cd is a great idea. But I’d love to get a copy of the Asian Dreamland since we play lullabies for SoJo when he goes to sleep. It helps unwind him.

Is this a music theme week? I should have made you a button :)!!
