I am a health enthusiast, and I also like to save money. Those are only two of the reasons that I have fallen in love with my 5-Tray SMALL GARDEN-Excalibur with a 26 hour Timer !
You know those infomercials about appliances that can do just about anything?
The 5-Tray Excalibur Food Dehydrator really DOES have a laundry list of uses!
Besides the obvious possibilities of using the Excalibur dehydrator to make dried fruit, dried veggies, fruit leather, and jerky, you can also dry herbs, nuts, grains, make yogurt and cheeses (woo!), speed drying time on craft projects, create cute things for cake decorations, make your own potpourri, sachets, macrame beads, dough art, wreaths, and explore raw and living foods (it is a great environment for growing your own sprouts!).
The Excalibur Home Food Dehydrator saves money because you can be a DIY dehydrating guru. Plus, Excalibur products are designed to be environmentally conscious. They run on a lower wattage than other dehydrators, which saves electricity and lessens the environmental impact.
Excalibur has a great selection of books filled with creative ideas for dehydrating and recipes that use dehydrated food.
I used my Preserve it Naturally book as a guide for making a batch of yogurt as well as dried pineapple and banana in my Excalibur.
Not to shabby for a first time user!
I was particularly pleased with my yogurt. The recipe in Preserve it Naturally was simple to follow, and I made lots of yogurt in reusable containers.
After dinner one night, I set the Excalibur Food Dehydrator on “yogurt”, set the timer for three hours, and just went about my business. Just before bedtime I capped the finished product and put them all in the fridge.
Less waste, less cost, woohoo!
Like many parents, I’m always looking for healthy snacks and foods for my kids that are free from dyes, sugars, and preservatives.
With my dehydrator I can make a lot of different healthy options for the kids, and I know exactly what goes into each recipe.
Of course the compact size of the non-messy dried snacks make them ideal for travel or lunch boxes!
Not to mention that Jojo’s Sensory Processing issues give him an aversion to mushy foods. Dried, crispy veggies anyone?
My favorite “surprise” use for my Excalibur Food Dehydrator is that it can re-crisp stale crackers, chips, and cereal! A thrifty mom’s dream! “It’s still good, now eat it!”
When I dried the fruit, my house smelled delicious for hours. And dried pineapple is naturally very sweet. Deeds is gobbling it up!
I’m really hoping for a HUGE tomato crop this year from my small garden. With the Excalibur Food Dehydrator, there is no such thing as “too many” of one fruit or veggie.
I want to dry tomatoes to create my own pasta sauce mixes! I can’t wait!
I just remembered I have some seeds downstairs that I can sprout tonight! Excitement at my house!
