Do you love to be spooked?
I don’t. But I am a little intrigued when it comes to true tales of haunting.
Encyclopedia of Haunted Places: Ghostly Locales from Around the World has lists and backgrounds on, well, ghostly locales from around the world.
Encyclopedia of Haunted Places: Ghostly Locales from Around the World really does take you around the world; there is a wealth of haunty places in the US and Canada, as well as Europe, Oceana, and a small smattering in Asia and South Africa.

Check the table of contents on the Amazon.com listing for more detail. I was surprised that my home state of Alabama only had one place listed. The state college I attended had several haunted buildings on it’s campus, one having been used as a former civil war hospital; that one didn’t make the cut to appear in Encyclopedia of Haunted Places: Ghostly Locales from Around the World.

If you are seeking these sorts of thrills, the Encyclopedia of Haunted Places: Ghostly Locales from Around the World would be a good resource for planning your scary trip. It has addresses and details you need for ghost hunting. It even has creepy ghostie photos.

I’m getting kind of spooked just typing this (hey, it’s dark in here!), so lets get on with the giveaway!

Disclosure: New Page Books provided a copy of Encyclopedia of Haunted Places: Ghostly Locales from Around the World for the purposes of review. They are also providing a copy for giveaway.

I always include a few haunted places when trip planning–just to break up the art museum/cathedral thing.

The creepiest thing I’ve ever experienced was as part of a paranormal investigation group and a cold spot that we were measuring began to move down the hall towards us.

The spookiest thing I ever experienced was a ‘ball of light’ about the size of a softball that came toward me one night when I was driving on a dark road alone in the car. It was late, I didn’t know the area and there were no streetlights and it definitely scared me. I still don’t know what it was.

I’ve had a couple of experiences, all at the same friend’s house. We’d be watching TV and it would just turn off or the lights would turn off (and no not at the same time). Her computer also turned itself on in the middle of night… scared the crap out of us!

Good question! :) Strange things sometimes happened in an older house where we used to live. The strangest, I guess, is when some dog toys were left on a counter from the wash and ended up scattered out in the hall. We and the dog were outside when it happened. If someone was pulling a prank, no one has fessed up years later! Maybe we had an otherworldly pet living w/ us. ;)

I have actually had a few ghostly experiences - the first house i lived in with my husband the previous owner was murdered in the garage. The lights in the garage would turn on by itself, items would be thrown off of shelves and the scariest is the first night that i spent the night there i woke up in the middle of the night with a black mass hovering over the bed…very terrifing (our master bedroom was over the garage). Also i always had the feeling that i was going to be pushed down the stairs in the house, it never happened to me thank goodness. After we moved out my brother in law bought the house from us and he was on top of the stairs and doesnt know what happened but woke up at the bottom of the stairs with a huge bump on his head….he had “fallen” down the stairs and hit his head…very weird.

We recently visited Jefferson,Texas .We toured the local haunted areas with a tour group. What was so interesting was the story about Steven Spielberg filming a movie in the area and he supposedly saw and heard a ghost in his hotel. It was enough to make him and his crew check out of the hotel immediatly !

A clock belonging to my late mother chimed one day when we were in the barn where it was being stored. It was in a storage box and was not wound so there should have been no way it could have chimed (no one was even near it). My sister simply said “hi mom” and we went on about our business. The “haunted clock” now hangs in my other sister’s house.

We lived in an old Victorian where you’d often get the sensation that something (some entity) was leaving a room when you entered it. All rooms opened onto another in a large circle ( we just rented part of the house). It was kind of cool.

My children and I saw a face in our TV when it was off. We no longer live in the house where that took place. Also, the lights in our bathroom flickered on and off all the time. We have them checked but they said there was nothing wrong. I think it was a possessed home or something evil was lurking around. There is more but that’s enough. lol

    Thanks.

When I was a little girl a man would come set on the edge of my bed every night and then get up and climb out the window. I told my Mom about this guy and she found out that he was murdered and dumped into the swamp not far from our apartment. My mom and dad slept in my room one night and in the middle of the night the blankets were thrown off the bed. He never bothered me or anybody else in the house.

When my friend was in a deep coma after a serious car accident i had a dream that the right side of her head had been shaved and she told me she was ok and she was happy now. When i finally was able to get a flight to see her (before she passed away), her head had indeed been shaved on the right side (but no one had told me anything about it previously).

Also one time i was woken up by my grandmother(who had passed) and she gave me a pep talk about starting a new job and told me how proud of me she was. When I “woke up” i was actually sitting on the edge of the bed like i had been in my “dream”

This last summer we were on vacation and went to Eureka Springs Arkansas. We went to visit the Cresent Hotel as it is reported as being a haunted hotel and I wanted to do their midnight tour so bad….but we had the kids and they couldn’t do the tour.

State Camarillo Mental Institution was turned into a local college. The old hospital was known as abusing it’s patients. . .
They are still doing construction on half of the school, So i went there and brought some friends.

i can’t even describe how the air feels in that place.
And how strange it is to see abandoned buildings have rooms with lights on. Why would the city waste weeks worth of electricity??
unless…somebody ELSE is turning them on.

We used to live in a home that was built in 1892 and we had a great deal of odd occurances. The sppokiest has to have been when my oldest daughter came running into the living room declaring their was an old woman in a long dress standing in our bathtub! My brother in law often has the ability to “speak to the dead” and when he came to visit me for the first time, I was a sceptic. He told me that the previous owner of my home was here and looking over my daughter, that she would be fine. I thought that’s nuts. She IS fine, what is he talking about. Well…in the morning my daughter woke up with flu like symptoms and it was minor and she was fine within a couple days. Weird… I believe him when he says he sees or hears things now!

I have had many paranormal experiences since I was a child. I think one of the strangest experiences was the appearance of an orb that was slightly smaller than a soccer ball, “floating” on top of a table at the bottom of our bed. It was pale blue and white, sort of transparent. I was not scared when I saw it; I just stood there for several minutes, just looking at it. I reached out to touch it and heard something say “psssst” out loud. That was scary! I jumped into bed, grabbed by husband, and yanked the covers over my head. True story! Happy Halloween and thanks for the great contest!

Then I saw a shape of someone in my room one night, but when I turned on the lamp…no one! The scariest was I was blow drying my hair one night in my room and all the sudden I looked up for some reason (I was reading while I blow dried my hair) and I had a helium balloon in my room and it was inches from my face. While I watched…it moved back to it’s corner and then it was like someone let it go…and rose back up to the ceiling! FREAKY!

I’m sure my house is haunted. Often, when I’m looking for a particular pair of earrings or shoes, I can only find one. One year, I wanted to wear a certain Halloween t-shirt, but couldn’t find it anywhere. After Halloween, I found it lying on top of a pile of clothes. My mother was counting checks and left the room, and when she came back, one was missing. She never found it. Her brother gave her a birthday card with $20 in it one year, and she couldn’t find it later. About 3 years later, she walked out of her bedroom, and it was lying on the floor in the hall in front of her bedroom door.

My dog Pogo who has passed away, used to come and visit at bedtime and I could feel him walking on my bed at night. I had another dog at the time Wiley, they were best friends, I think Pogo came to visit him. Wiley passed away in Feb. and Pogo has not come to visit since. I think he was waiting for him to be with him.

I was home alone and heard a little boy call my name. I looked around and there was no one there.

I wish I were “sensitive” to ghosts, but sadly, I don’t think I am. All my friends have “ghostly encounter” tales, but they seem to leave me alone! :(

I’ve only had one “ghostly” experience. I was getting ready at my dresser in the mirror, with my back facing the open window. I could have sworn I saw a boy dresses in colonial clothes walk by the window, but when I rushed outside and looked around, no one was there.

Our house when I was growing up was haunted. My sister and I saw things happen and we didn’t talk about it until we were older. Really creepy! I’d love this book! Thank you!

I don’t know that I would call it spooky exactly, because I believe in spirits, but when I was living in Florida, I woke up one night and my deceased grandmother was standing at the foot of my bed. She smiled at me and disappeared. Didn’t scare me at all. It gave me a sense of peace. Thanks!

My only experience was shortly after my grandma died. There was a bunch of family over at my house and we were telling stories about my grandma and all of a sudden the curtains billowed out like a blast of air was behind them. We of course checked to see if the window was open and it wasn’t.

After my grandfather died one night I saw him standing at the foot of my bed. I got the sense he was telling me everything was going to be alright.
