Jojo, my preschooler-most-traveled, has a great new travel toy made by MagnaPlay.
The MagnaKase Magnetic Dry Erase Activity Case is a nifty plastic case with a magnetic dry erase surface and carrying handle.
It is just the right size to be a child’s lap desk, which is really useful on the road. The true genius is that the magnetic surface allows you to secure papers and activity books on to the case so that they don’t slide around as you travel.
The MagnaKase is 12″ x 10.6″ x 2.7″, a great size for storing and toting papers, coloring books, and other travel toys.
When I saw the 2 magnetic strips included with the case for securing papers to the surface of the MagnaKase, I thought “isn’t that clever!?”
Of course, with the dry-erase surface you don’t really need paper at all, and if you want to be extra Earth-friendly, you can purchase reusable coloring sheets for use with your dry-erase markers! The dry-erase markers included are WASHABLE! I didn’t know such a thing exisited! Normal dry-erase markers stain clothing, so in the past I have approached with caution. But now my mama mind doesn’t have to worry about that detail.
The reusable coloring sheets are laminated, feature activities on both sides, and already have magnetic strips attached at top and bottom.
Jojo loves finding hidden pictures and the like, so the What Is Wrong With This Picture set is a source of delight for him. I actually just bought him some more dry-erase markers today so that the fun can continue!
I’m lucky that Jojo LOVES doing worksheets. He calls any kind of school work “work ships“. The MagnaKase makes him feel super grown-up and official when he is doing his workships!
There is also a wooden MagnaKase, which I think looks the coolest of the two options! In my opinion, the wooden case is a better option for featuring magnetic activities, while the plastic MagnaKase might be a more practical option for storing and transporting school supplies.
The MagnaKase Wooden Magnetic Activity Box is sturdy and beautiful, made of renewable wood with brass hinges and clasp. I imagine the MagnaKase Wooden Magnetic Activity Box becoming a faithful travel accessory, and maybe even a “treasure box” for Jojo’s special things.
I’m so pleased with MagnaPlay products. They are simple, well-made, low-tech (my favorite!), and engaging. This is something that both of my children will be able to play with for years and years. Maybe they can even use them as teens when we are on the road and they have the urge to do a research paper. Or write poetry. It is good to be prepared.
MagnaPlay said that I could give away an activity box to one of my readers! So, you can enter to win your choice of either the MagnaKase Wooden Magnetic Activity Box or a MagnaKase Magnetic Dry Erase Activity Case!
1) To enter for your chance to win, Just visit http://www.magnaplay.com and leave me a comment telling me something you learned about MagnaPlay or another product you like!
You can enter every day, and subsequent entries don’t require that you answer the question.
Please don’t just comment with “Enter me” or “Sounds great”. That totally annoys me. Those entries are not eligible to win.
One winner will be chosen at random.
This giveaway is open to those with a US mailing address.
This contest will close July 6, 2009, 11:59 CST.

This give away is really a great thing to take with you when you are going on long trips in the car. I can already see my son who likes to draw and color and oh and now since he is a big boy going into first grade he likes to practice his spelling and it would be so helpful to make it easier for him.
06 July 2009, 8:40 pm
From their website I learned that: “During travel, children can use the MagnaKase as an activity lapboard while in a car seat, in a flight, in a restaurant or even during a picnic as it is just the right size. They can use both sides of the lid as an activity board since the inner surface is magnetic and outer surfaces is dry erase magnetic.” What a godsend this is for long car trips!
