Where have you gone my little boy?

Turn around you’re two. Turn around then you’re four
Turn around you’re a young man going out the door

How did it happen so fast, Deeds? Your first birthday, your second birthday, and now…August 15th, 2010…you are THREE!

CIMG2350How can I describe you in the time that passed between your 2nd and 3rd birthdays?

You are full of enthusiasm and mischief. You do it all with a winsome smile.

When you speak, your words may be unclear, but the emotions behind them are apparent.

You laugh at your own jokes, nod and smile when someone asks you a question (whether you understand it or not), or furrow your eyebrows when something displeases you.

CIMG2351

You love cats (meow-meows), vehicles (vroom-vrooms), and you are still a big fan of your white satin blankie, Silky.

We lost all of your pacifiers a few months after your 2nd birthday on a long trip to Vietnam. It was a traumatic separation but you bounced back.

You are officially potty trained and even sleep in regular underpants now. High five for that!

You want to do everything that your big brother Jojo does. He is five-years-old and therefore awesome, so of course he needs to be emulated.

Sometimes you get along, but sometimes you antagonize him on purpose. I see the craftiness in your eyes when you run up and slap him or bite him in a surprise attack. You put his precious Lego pieces in your mouth. You want to play video games and computer whenever he does.

You are the little brother.

However much you make a pest of yourself, ultimately you have Jojo’s best interests in mind. You like to make sure he has food and treats when you do.

CIMG2354 You are my baby boy.

Surprisingly, you still want to be a baby. We have talked about it a lot lately.

“Are you a big boy?”

“No. I bay-bee.”

Well that is refreshing, Deeds. So many kids want to grow up too fast.

You just stay a baby, Deeds, if that is what you have a mind to do.

On August 11th you started 3K preschool. It just so happens that the teacher is your Mama.

I am so glad to have this time with you to watch you grow and learn.

Yesterday, another child didn’t want to eat their food. You tried to cajole them into trying it, saying, “It’s yaaaammmy!”

CIMG2341You help to tidy up the class, and you are the first at the snack table when I give the word.

Sitting during circle time? Well, we can work on that. After all, you are only three.

On Monday, you will wear an adorable shirt to school with a giant “3” on it. I will make M&M cookies to share with your classmates.

You love “em em” cookies because they combine two of your most favorite things, “tookie AN TANDY!” (cookie AND candy!). Bonus!

I love you, little man. You challenge, amuse, frustrate, amaze, and downright melt me every day.

Happy Birthday, my dear.

Love,

Mama

How precious. You really nailed our sweet Deacon. He is so blessed to have you for his mom. I really appreciate how you take care of my boys, big and small. Deacon is all you said and more and has to be the sweetest little boy on earth. Thank you for loving him like you do.

    Happy Birthday Deeds!

What a sweet post about that sweet little boy. It’s amazing how much they grow and change, even just from the photos on our blogs.

I hope he had a wonderful birthday…I’m sure that amazing castle/fort thing was the best gift! Where did you get that?

The castle and Fagus truck were from Nova Naturals (http://www.novanatural.com/)
They cost me a fortune but I have wanted them for like 3 years. I mean. uh. For the kids. The Fagus truck is the big winner. He slept with it and just loves it. But I think Jojo and Deeds will both get lots of play out of the castle. It goes well with most action figure scenarios, including Indiana Jones.

I have never met you or your little boy. And yet I smiled and almost wept while reading this beautiful post about your baby boy. In fact, I’m going to share it with friends. This is far more important and wonderful than a chance to win a gift — this birthday tribute *is* a gift and I thank you for sharing it.

God bless you and your beautiful family. You are blessed!

    Peace,
    Joyce

That was very sweet! I don’t want my baby to turn 2 soon and my oldest will be 8! I wish they didn’t grow so fast!
