I’m having a busy week at Mom Most Traveled! I’m hosting a Tea Party with tons of prizes just for women (no baby stuff this time!).
Today we are sharing about our families and Christmases past.

This is us about one year ago. We haven’t posted for a family picture since then! Whoops! Now the boys are bigger, Nick has short hair, and I’m thinner (hey, I was like 4 months postpartum in this photo; go easy on me!)
This is a vintage blog post, circa Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005
We opened gifts on Christmas eve. That didn’t take long, because Jonas had 4 gifts, I had one, and Nick didn’t have any. But don’t feel sorry for him, because he just recently got a new set of golf clubs that were expensive. We both have everything we want and need.
Jonas got a really cute Santa hat from my friend Jenny’s mom in Washington state.
Here he is playing with his plastic tigers, shape sorter, and train. He likes the tigers a lot and carries the shape sorter around by the handle, but he isn’t too into the train.
A few minutes after gift time, Papa and Jojo had to do some work on his new bike. They were busy doing that for a while.
At a lull in the action, Jonas went off to ride his old tricycle, and fell off of it backwards into the steps on the porch, which resulted in some bleeding from the head, which made me feel queasy. But he recovered quickly.
The day after Christmas, our neighbor gave Jojo a little basketball goal. I had to blow up that little toy basketball myself by sticking the needle in and blowing it up with my mouth. The needle wouldn’t fit on the pump.
This is my Christmas present from Nick. There were 2 more but I ate them before the photo session. My parents gave me money, too.
I feel like we had a fun and meaningful Christmas. I know most people get a lot more gifts than we gave to Jojo, and I wonder if he will feel deprived later in life…
So, fast forward, Jojo is 4 now and we have a new little one, 14-month-old Deeds. Christmas will still be simple this year, but I still LOVE it!
What do you think of our simple Christmas? I would love to hear your opinions.

I think kids get (and expect) waaaay too much! I’m not a dream/wish-fulfiller. We don’t spend or give near as much as other families we know, and I’m okay with that. I’m not raising greedy little monsters, either!

I prefer a simple Christmas! It makes me sad to see a child enthralled with a gift when someone shoves something else in their face.

I think simple Christmas’ are the best. My most memorable one was our first Christmas as a family. It was just Ava, Hubs and Me! I even cooked dinner and it tasted great. I was so proud of myself. Your family is beautiful and your pictures are amazing.

A simple Christmas is the best kind. It isn’t suppose to be about the gifts, but the time with family. I always do Christmas as simple as possible. My parents spoiled my son his first Christmas and bought him so much. He never played with even half of it. It was such a waste.

What lovely photos and memories. I love seeing Jojo as a baby. He reminds me so much of Soren. I think our Christmas will be like yours, where Soren gets one present and the same for each of us. We hope to do a simple Christmas every year.
And congrats on being a VIP blogger!

I love the simple Christmas. I’d much rather buy my kids just a few toys they love than a whole bunch they’ll toss aside in a couple months.

Hey my favorite CanCan! Ok.. I understand what you are saying about being deprived. My children get a decent amount of gifts, but they only get one gift per family member (Which in the scheme of things is 7 gifts, and one from Santa) So I hope they never even think to complain. I mean.. Honestly.. if they don’t know what others are doing, then I’m sure they do not think it’s a deprivation issue.
We also celebrate Yule so they get a handmade/spiritual gift every year, so they have a lot of celebrations and soul warming experiences. As long as they are loved, I am sure they do not care and will remember the holidays fondly!
