Choosing The Best Preschool

Snapshot_20100720_1 Choosing the right preschool isn’t as easy as it used to be.

When Jojo was two years old, we ultimately decided on a Montessori day program for him.

Even though I have an MA in teaching, I really didn’t know a lot about different early learning philosophies.

After her search for the perfect preschool, mother of two Jenifer Wana wrote How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery School.

This book is all about the process of researching, visiting, and applying to preschools.

How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child: The Ultimate Guide to Finding, Getting Into, and Preparing for Nursery tells parents everything from criteria for choosing a preschool to preparing for admission interviews, as well as advice on applying to competitive preschools, including writing essays, soliciting recommendations and getting off the waiting list.

Personally I have never had to go through a strenuous admissions process to get into a preschool, nor does the preschool I work at require anything crazy from parents or prospective students.

I think that for parents new to the preschool scene, Chapter 5: Types of Preschool Programs (my class is a blend of Montessori and Reggio Emilia), and Chapter 7: Visiting Preschools, and Chapter 13: Preschool Readiness Skills would be beneficial reads for all kinds of preschool scenarios.

I actually wish all of my class parents would read the Preschool Readiness Skills chapter, as it suggest ways to equip your child to be able to get along with others, express needs and wants, follow simple instructions, and other very necessary classroom skills.

That looks like a very interesting book. A friend of mine had the same dilemma when she decided to enroll her little girl in a preschool. I personally, wouldn’t know what to look for in a preschool.
