Kim Fay lived in Vietnam for 4 years and fell in love with the culture and people.
A decade after returning home, she went back to Vietnam for a five-week culinary adventure from Hanoi to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
Communion: A Culinary Journey Through Vietnam is her account of the markets, cooking tips, techniques, [...]

We watched the Water Puppets in Hanoi.
The kids liked it so much that when we went to Ho Chi Minh City, we had to check out the show there as well (Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre 55B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Labour Cultural House, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam).
We got two dragon puppets [...]

While in Saigon, we had a look at some stunning French colonial architecture.
Most impressive was the Notre Dame Cathedral. It looks like it was plucked right out of France and plopped down in Vietnam. And it kind of was, actually.
Established by French colonists, the cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880 from bricks imported [...]

I wanted to do something fun with the kids in Ho Chi Minh City, so I thought we would check out the zoo and botanical gardens.
The morning started with a nice breakfast on the 5th floor terrace of our hotel, the Saigon Mini Hotel.
Even so, when we arrived at the zoo and gardens there [...]

We eventually had to leave paradise (AKA Hoi An and China Beach), bound for Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
I booked our flight through LastMinuteTravel.com using vouchers they provided for me to try out their service. Everything was a breeze, even though I initially was wary because most LastMinuteTravel.com deals are related to US travel. But [...]

We only had one full day at the beach (and two half days), and the boys and I took full advantage!
Jojo LOVES the beach. He squeals and rolls around in the waves the whole time.
The beach at our hotel in Danang was beautiful and clean and not crowded.
However the days that we were there, [...]

Our last night in Hoi An was New Year’s Day. There were several performances all around the city that night. They called them Vaudeville something or other.
We watched the end of one that seemed like a fashion show, narrated in French. At one point the girls went in the audience and gave random people glasses [...]

Two years before Jojo was even born, I bought The Monkees: Season 1 on DVD.
I loved watching The Monkees TV show on Nickelodeon when I was a child, and I even went to their reunion tour in 1986.
So I’m nostalgically pleased to see Jojo follow in my footsteps in his developing Monkees enthusiasm.
He sings [...]

On New Year’s Eve we did a half-day bike tour with Sleepy Gecko Byke Tours in Hoi An.
We had visited the Sleepy Gecko Chill-Out Bar the day before and I was excited that the owner was a family man who even had child seats that we could use on the bike ride!
We started out with [...]

On our 3rd day in Hoi An, we were ready to get out and do something! We went to the Sleepy Gecko Chillout Bar to arrange a bicycle tour for the next day.
We had to cross the river on a bridge that is closed to cars and trucks.
When we got to the Sleepy Gecko [...]
