As a mom, I am always fascinated with cultural differences in parenting.
In Laos, there isn’t a mind-numbing variety of “must-have” baby items like in the U.S. In fact, when Jojo was a four months old, his first car journey in Laos drew a crowd of neighbors.
As we were getting ready to leave, my neighbor said, [...]

Since we are all here at the Tea Party, I thought we could show off our favorite mugs and tea sets.
Everyone has a special mug that is “theirs”; you know, the old faithful, the go-to mug. The one you get kind of upset if someone else is using it.

This is mine. It is from a [...]

Delicious Baby, a website about Making Travel With Kids Fun, invites you to share your travel photos every Friday.
These are from a shopping trip on Thursday in Udon Thani, Thailand.
Sorry about the blur; I was trying to be incognito and not draw attention to myself taking photos inside of the store.

I resisted the urge to buy this “ROCKING Little Elephant” in Thailand. It is inflatable.

SPROCKETS! Deeds [...]

In Laos there is a lot of buzz about a little dish called papaya salad.
When I first heard about “papaya salad”, I pictured a lovely syrupy sweet fruit salad, perhaps artfully carved complete with butterflied pineapple.
In reality, papaya salad, or (Tam [...]

Thailand has a wide variety of disposable diapers available, especially in large cities. These pictures are from a Tesco Lotus store in Udon Thani, Thailand.
Mamy Poko are some of the most absorbent diapers available. I think they are even better than diapers in the States. I had a bit of a shock when we went [...]

Baby Food in Thailand (and Laos)

Laos imports almost everything from Thailand (or China). There are not many factories in Laos; only a few places produce select commodities like clothing, Pepsi, Beer Lao, and coffee.
Packaged/jarred baby food is available widely in Thailand at stores like Tesco-Lotus or 7 Eleven (I can personally vouch for this in the cities of Bangkok, [...]
