Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of The Potty Snatchers #interview #giveaway

61A3r 76CBL

If you have a primary school student in your household, you probably know about Captain Underpants.

In honor of Super Diaper Baby 2, the newest release from Captain Underpants creator Dav Pilkey, I was given the opportunity to ask the author a couple of interview questions!

CanCan: I read that you were diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. I am a parent of an intensely creative child diagnosed with ADHD; I would love inspiration about what helped you to channel your creativity and inspired your work.

Dav Pilkey: I think most of the stories are inspired by memories from my childhood–by the feelings of helplessness and frustration I felt (and I’m sure most kids feel) when I was constantly surrounded by adults who were either mean, dumb, or unfair (and sometimes all three). “Kid empowerment” is a very strong theme in my books.

CanCan: Your books are so authentically hilarious and spot on with kid humor appeal. I am a teacher and the Captain Underpants series is the most popular in the library (seriously, they kept a tally). How do you stay in touch with that side of you, even when you have to do grown up boring things like pay bills and negotiate contracts?

Dav Pilkey: George and Harold are both baed on me as a kid, so I’m really just trying to write from the perspective of myself– as a kid.

I love the fun and challenge of “ghostwriting” for George and Harold because they see things a little differently than I do. Often I’ll have to abandon an idea or a joke because I know that George and Harold wouldn’t have liked it or thought it was funny. It is OK though, because it forces me to think of better ideas and better jokes.

In Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers, George and Harold create their most epic novel yet! Evil genius Dr. Dilbert Dinkle awakens one day transformed into a walking, talking puddle of pee, and vows to destroy every toilet in town. Will the devious Dr. Dinkle and his conniving cat, Petey, ruin restrooms for the rest of us?

Tropical Traditions Gluten Free Organic Coconut Flour #Giveaway

In January I went gluten free. And dairy free. Oh and I’m already a vegetarian for the past 16 years.

I haven’t tackled gluten free baking. I have tried pancakes with rice flour, and that was a fail.

Tropical Traditions is one of my favorite companies; I use their Virgin Coconut Oil EVERYDAY as both a food product and a body product. I use it for moisturizer and even put it in my hair.

Tropical Tradions has an array of gluten free products!

Organic coconut flour nutritional panel

While some of these don’t meet my needs as a vegetarian (lamb…is made of lamb meat), I am really excited about the Organic Coconut Flour!

It tastes yummy and healthy, smells delicious, and is safe for a gluten free diet or a paleo diet.

The texture is way better than rice flour. I love that Organic Coconut Flour has so much protein, with 19.3 grams per serving! Awesome! I noticed that some people put it in their smoothies to get those extra nutrients. I haven’t done that, but I might try it for my kids.

On the Tropical Traditions website, they have all kinds of recipes that use Organic Coconut Flour, including (brace yourselves, my gluten free bretheren!) PIZZA CRUST!

Here is a recipe that one of my “Paleo” diet friends sent me. Paleo is a good term to search if you are avoiding dairy and gluten.

Paleo Diet Coconut Cake Recipe

Ingredients

2 eggs

1/3 cup olive oil

1?2 cup honey

1cup coconut milk

1tsp 100% vanilla essence

1 cup almond meal

1?2 cup Organic Coconut Flour

1tsp baking powder (not paleo)

1?4 cup desiccated coconut

Instructions Pre-heat oven to 350 F/180 C.

Cream eggs, oil and honey in a large bowl until light and fluffy.

Add coconut milk and vanilla essence.

Add almond meal, Organic Coconut Flour, baking powder and desiccated coconut, combine well.

Line a loaf tin with baking paper and pour in coconut mixture.

Place in oven for 50-60min or until cooked.

Test by inserting a knife into the middle of the loaf, if it comes out clean it is cooked through.

NOTE: If you would prefer not to use baking powder, separate 2 eggs and beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then fold into the coconut mixture. This will help in aerating the bread.

First time Tropical Traditions customers can use THIS Mom Most Traveled referral link to receive a free copy of the book Virgin Coconut Oil: How it has changed people’s lives and how it can change yours!

1 Organic Coconut Flour – 2.2 lbs.

The Absolutely Most Fabulous Charlie and Lola Giveaway In The Whole World

Charlie and lola poseable dolls 259x300

Charlie and lola slightly invisable child 273x300

I LOVE Charlie and Lola!

Yes, I love them. And my 3K students love the Charlie and Lola books. I kind of love them, even though the abundance of superlatives make them a bit of a challenge to read to a group of 17 squirmy 3-year-olds.

I love the way that Charlie is so everlastingly patient with the quirky and slightly exasperating Lola. The books and shows model wonderful interpersonal and communication skills.

Slightly Invisible by Lauren Child is about an issue every younger sibling has faced: who can Lola play with while Charlie is having fun with his own friends?

Slightly Invisible by Lauren Child has a special appearance by my favorite invisible guest star, Soren Lorenson.

Charlie and Lola DVD’s are also tons of fun. I think I have volumes “Four” and “Nine.”

I like that the show has a slow pace, thoughtfully developed plots, and zero annoying songs and jingles.

I have good news for you. For my special blog readers, I am giving away an exciting Charlie and Lola prize pack worth over $120!

I know!

One winner will get the Plush – Talking Posable Charlie & Lola Set, Charlie and lola season 1 and 2 300x285 the favorite and best boxed set of ALL Charlie and Lola DVDs, Charlie and Lola, Vol. 1-8, and the newest book that I ever read, Slightly Invisible by Lauren Child.

1.) To enter, leave me a comment about who you want to give this awesome prize pack to, and your personal favorite Charlie and Lola moment.

Star Wars Lego Storage: ZipBin #Giveaway

Star Wars Zip BinA1435XX open bentDESC96dpi

My kids are full-fledged into the “millions of small toys” phase.

Deeds has a large collection of vroom-vrooms, which he actually contains in a Hot Wheels Zip Bin.

That thing gets used every day. It even survived when our babysitter zipped it inside out.

Haha. Oh, babysitter.

Jojo has a major Lego obsession. He gets a Lego set of his choosing for his birthday and I think I got him one for Christmas as well. Even at the rate of two or three sets a year, the collection numbers hundreds of bricks.

Our storage solution for keeping the Dark Side of Lego Clutter at bay is the Neat-Oh Lego®Star Wars ZipBin® Battle Bridge Carry Case Playmat.

Yeah. Awesome name.

And this is serious awesome.

Not only is it made to contain the toys, it also unzips to become a playscape for clone troopers, Sith Lords and Jedi Knights to do battle on the suspended battle bridge.

Got Lego or other small collections growing in your house?

You need a ZipBin.

Cheerios New Author Prize Pack #Giveaway

Today I read a story to my 3K class called The Big Bad Bunny. It is really funny and I enjoy reading it. The liner notes say that the story was made up between the author and his young preschool aged daughter over the course of a conversation.

What makes a good children’s book? How do you know when your story has “it”?

The Cheerios New Author Contest is in full swing, encouraging ambitious authors to write and submit an original story, in either English or Spanish, suitable for children ages three to eight.

Laurie Isop, of Renton, Wash., won the literary lottery when she was named Grand Prize Winner of the 2009 Cheerios New Author Contest. Laurie, a small business owner, mother of two boys, and aspiring author since the age of 12, can now add “published author” to her resume. This spring, Laurie’s book How Do You Hug a Porcupine? will be featured in more than three million specially-marked boxes of Cheerios and will also be available in bookstores nationwide beginning this July.

Those who want to follow in Laurie’s footsteps and think they have the “write” stuff can visit www.spoonfulsofstoriescontest.com from March 22 through July 15, 2011 to find out more.

Cheerios spoonfule logoCreate Your Own Book Kit

Enter to win a Cheerios New Author Prize Pack that includes a box of Cheerios with Laurie Isop’s book inside, as well as a “create-your-own” book kit for kids that contains two hard cover books and all the necessary materials to creatively fill the pages inside, including story starter ideas and colored pencils.

1.) To enter, leave me a comment telling me the answer to one of these questions:

*If you wrote a children’s book, what would it be about?

Freschetta By The Slice Pizza Giveaway

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FRESCHETTA® for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I like the convenience and relative cheapness of frozen pizza, but one major downside is that my kids only collectively eat about 1/8th of the pizza, leaving me confronted with 3 1/2 remaining servings, which is probably like 64 fat grams.

Well, if you are completely lacking in self control like I am, there is now FRESCHETTA® By the Slice.

FRESCHETTA® By the Slice is a single-serving-size pizza that heats up fast in the microwave and comes in four delicious flavors:

BBQ Recipe Chicken

Chicken, Spinach & Mushroom

Six Cheese Medley

Vegetable Medley

I’m pleased to see two vegetarian options, but I would love a spinach and mushroom without the chicken. Who is with me?!

FRESCHETTA® By the Slice is $1.99 and made with the usual FRESCHETTA ingredients. One thing I love about Freschetta is the crust, and this is the same yummy crust in a single serving portion. Convenience and control. Yeah!

This is totally worth standing in the microwave line in the break room at work.

You can fan Freschetta on Facebook, and follow @FreschettaPizza on Twitter!

1.) To enter, tell me what you eat for lunch on a typical weekday.

2.) Email subscribers get an extra entry for as long as their subscription is active.

    Piggyback Rider Goes Beyond Strollers

    PiggyBack4

My kids love to ride “up top”, which means sitting on a grown-up’s neck or shoulders.

Sure its fun for them, but its not very sustainable for the poor adult. The sore neck and back consume your every thought after a few moments!

Next time we go to the zoo, gardens, National Park, festival, parade, or theme park, I am excited to use The Piggyback Rider™.

The Piggyback Rider was invented by dads and allows children stand on a shoulder-mounted foot bar, strapped into a harness for safety.

Kids get a bird’s eye view and parents get an easy, convenient way to carry their child aged 2 1/2 – 7 (up to 60 pounds).

As a baby-wearing mama, I really like that the child and parent can conversate and listen to each other while walking in Piggyback Rider Child Carrier, unlike in a stroller where the child is in their little pod, removed from the group.

Deeds was really thrilled to try Piggyback Rider Child Carrier with Papa. While Deeds is a reliable walker, he does get easily distracted, so I think that this is just the solution for a crowded “keep moving forward” outing.

It is recommended to use The Piggyback Rider with shoes, since the foot bar as no-slip foot grips (kind of scratchy for bare footsies) but Deeds lives barefoot so he tried it au naturale.
