The pressrooms are a twitter with the news that Michelle O’Bama wore special designer sneakers to a food bank appearance.
By “special” sneakers, I mean sneakers that cost $540.
I don’t really find it all that scandalous; rich people help poor people all of the time. You don’t see Oprah messing up her hair and making her face all dirty before she visits a charity.
And really, wouldn’t that be MORE offensive if someone of wealth decided to “dress poor” to be more “like the people”?
But back to the shoes.
I would like to be a fashionista, a title that has been bestowed upon Michelle Obama, but I don’t think I spend enough money on my clothes to have a personal style.
I like Michelle’s outfit in this picture. It looks good on her, classic and practical. But look at those shoes. The SHOES!
Can someone who wears hand-me-downs be a fashionista? If so, maybe I SHOULD apply.
When I see this picture the first word that comes to mind is, “Eww!”
If these shoes weren’t by a famous designer and they cost the normal discount store price, I would most likely refuse a free sample.
And I like sneakers. I’m kind of disappointed in Ellen Degeneres for being a fan of these as well.
I would rather wrap my feet in $540 worth of one dollar bills than wear these. I think it would be a better use of the money.
My question is, what is the true scandal here?
My bets are on the ugly. These shoes have no alibi.

I went shoe shopping last week, and I’m here to tell you you are in for a RUDE SURPRISE very soon on the shoe fashion front. M.O.’s shoes (or shoes a lot like them) are everywhere.
Probably best to hunker down and wait it out.

Those have got to be the ugliest shoes I have ever seen. It’s nice to see they are spending their money wisely.
Great look for America.

I don’t like these either, but I kinda remember some expensive (at the time) and ugly shoes worn by a younger generation. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ( and their peers). ha

Yuck. I, too, think they are UGLY. Wow, not a great example set by our 1st lady, huh. Not that I mind her having them or wearing them-but she probably should have thought twice about where she wore them…oh well.

Oh those are hideous. I do not care if they are free, I do not want them.

Ugh. Those are not okay. I realize that people can spend their money the way they like, but, quite frankly, I think that’s a lousy example, and completely unjustified. You can get nice-looking clothes (of which these are NOT) and not spend ridiculous amounts of money doing so!

Not sure what she was thinking there. I live to shop for shoes, especially when I can find a great deal on them!
