Snapshot_20100624_4 I don’t used canned foods often, but I do use canned tomato sauce and chopped tomatoes for convenience.

When I learned that BPA is often in the lining of cans, I began using canned tomatoes with less frequency.

Snapshot_20100624_3 Just two weeks ago I learned about Pomi tomatoes, tomatoes in a box.

Pomi Tomatoes are ideal for traveling if you were packing up a box of food for camping or a visit to the lake or beach house.

Pomi ready-made tomatoes can simplify preparing a meal with pasta sauce or chili or red beans and rice.

Pomi’s manufacturer Boschi is a certified producer of organic foods in Italy and prides itself on ONLY using seeds that are not genetically altered.

Pomi tomatoes contain no preservatives and are low in sodium [10 mg. vs 250 – 400 mg sodium for Del Monte and Hunts].

Pomi tomatoes are packaged in a box that is BPA free.

I was sent a sample to try out and I used it in some black beans and rice. The tomatoes taste and look very fresh. Go Pomi! Way to be healthy and more delicious!

Pomi can be bought in select Whole Foods Markets nationwide as well as of national stores, natural/organic stores and Italian specialty stores. It can also be bought on www.vitacost.com for a cheaper shipping rate than other sites, such as Amazon.

That’s fabulous! I’ve had a hard time eliminating canned tomatoes. Did you know Eden canned goods don’t have BPA in their linings? Where can you buy Pomi tomatoes?

I have heard that about Eden foods! I updated the post with info about where to buy. These have no “can” taste to me.

I’ve seen these in the store, but in an issue of Cook’s Illustrated (borrowed it from a neighbor, but can’t remember what the date on the issue was), they did a test of canned tomatoes and this one was not recommended. Apparently it was mushy and bland. Though I haven’t tried them myself. I’m still open to picking up a box.

I love Pomi! Kathleen, Pomi was bought by a new company after that issue came out I believe. It used to be owned by Parmalat until an Italian company took over and the tomatoes taste so fresh! I would definitely suggest picking up a box :)
