Because You Can’t Always Hold It

In order for you to understand how excited I am about this product, I need to tell you a story.
In most of Asia, you won’t find a “western style” toilet in public areas. If you don’t know what I am talking about, allow me to enlighten you.
Behold, the SQUAT TOILET:
Even if this is your first time seeing a squat toilet, you might have already figured out that instead of SITTING on the toilet, you SQUAT to use it. So, now that the scene is set, picture if you will: I am in Thailand with a six-month-old baby. I am ALONE with the baby, For three days. A few hours into this adventure, I had to go to the bathroom. I was carrying my baby in a big external frame back pack that I had borrowed for the adventure. The backpack was so long that I couldn’t squat with it on….What could I do?
Here is an illustration of my solution. This was not my finest hour, my friends:
I don’t know if you have ever tried to squat while holding your infant in your arms. It is not…easy. Also my baby was laughing in my face while I attempted to relieve myself.

I have good news for you. Whether you are alone with your baby in a public bathroom in Thailand or Tennessee, there is hope!Behold, the Babykeeper by Mommysentials!
The Babykeeper is a carrier that has 2 large metal hooks encased in safety webbing, each lined with non-slip material for added security to hang on the stall wall in most public restrooms!
I was excited enough about the ability to go to the bathroom without holding a baby, but the Babykeeper is also useful as a shopping cart restraint!
The Babykeeper comes in two designs: The Babykeeper Basic or The Babykeeper 3 in 1 Hip Carrier.
Baby Deaky and I are enjoying the freedom of having our very own Babykeeper 3 in 1 Hip Carrier! This is the only infant carrier that also functions as a portable seat for public restrooms, fitting and locker rooms, plus a shopping cart safety harness.

Another feature that I think is neat is that The Babykeeper comes with it’s own little storage bag. Here I had my husband model it:

What a fabulous invention!

I’m so excited that Mommysentials has offered to give one lucky Mom Most Traveled reader their choice of a Babykeeper Basic or a Babykeeper 3 in 1 Hip Carrier!

To enter, visit the Mommysentials site and look around (I particularly enjoyed the “About Us” section). Come back and leave a comment telling me which carrier you would choose, should you be the lucky winner. When have you needed a Babykeeper?
Feel free to share a Mommy Bathroom Horror Story, just to keep things interesting.

To gain an extra entry, subscribe to my RSS feed (if you are already subscribed, that counts, too).

To gain a third entry, place my new snazzy banner on your blog!

Contest closes June 6, 9pm CST. One winner will be selected via random number generator. Please make sure that I have a way to contact you, should you be the winner!

I would love the The Babykeeper 3-in-1 Hip Carrier. Do you ship internationally? Cos I actually live in Asia and have to face those toilets :P

Anyway, I’ve blogged HERE with your cute button.

Oh, and I’ve been subscribed to your feed already! Thanks :)

I can SO relate we’ve had to use one too many squatty potties here in Japan. Now imagine trying to figure how to get your potty training daughter to use one! That was fun stuff! Well at least she’s now a pro ;)

Cartoons cracked me up. :) I’d love the 3-in-1 Hip Carrier, too. I’ve actually needed it in my own house more than anything… she used to cry whenever I left her in her crib so I could use the bathroom. She much prefers being near me, but I have nowhere to put her in the bathroom!

They have a great website. I think that it is wonderful that they are helping care for their brother’s children.

I would love the 3-in-1. I could really use this for when I travel. Nothing like trying to figure out what to do with baby at an airport. I think I have only seen one airport (Houston) that has a little seat to strap your kid into. The rest of the time it trying to deal with carry-on luggage as well as a screaming kid in the tiny stall. No fun!

I would love to have had one of the Babykeeper 3-in-1 Hip Carriers when my babies were little! Trying to shop and try on clothes was impossible. I love it that it has the safety strap for grocery baskets also…I worry about some of the little ones I see at the store. The next baby in our extended family (my daughter-in-law’s sister) will be born in Oct. I would love to give her a Babykeeper 3-in-One Hip Carrier

I would love the 3-in-1! Please sign me up to win. I’m also a subscriber as well!

I know all about these lovely toilets and your drawers had me laughing so hard my husband had to come see it. I’ve always called them Turkish toilets, but I didn’t see one when I was in Turkey, not one! Living in France and now Italy… they are everywhere! This would be so great to have.

I would love a BabyKeeper 3 in 1 Hip Carrier. I have needed something like this at the gym while changing clothes. My mommy bathroom horror story actually happened yesterday. I picked my daughter up from the kids club at the gym and she had pooped, so I took her to the bathroom to change her. low and behold there are no changing tables in there, so i rolled out my pilates mat and changed her on that in the handicapped stall. the diaper was so stinky I had to wrap it up in toilet paper and just hoped that it didnt smell too bad! Great giveaway, thanks.

I would love the 3 in 1 Baby keeper. I have two little girls, and another one on the way in a month. If I could hang new baby on the wall while washing my little ones hands that would be a big help!

    Very unique product!

Thanks for visiting my blog and for alerting me to your contest. I’d love to win the 3-in-1 hip carrier, as my son loves his Baby Bjorn but I also like carrying him on the side of me (he’s a little too young for the hip yet). I love that this can be used in the restroom, as I never know how to handle that! Thanks!

I like the Babykeeper 3 in 1 hip Carrier as well. With six kids, two of them under two, I could REALLY use something like this when I’m out and about in Denver. It seems no place has a safe spot for the little ones to reside!

Awesome product, you always find the coolest items!

Thanks for the Etsy advice hon! I visit ya every day, I’ll just start babbling more now that school is out and I found my brain under a stack of papers :)

    Take care!
Ok… I’m adding your button! NOW!

the 3-1 hip carrier would be great. i need one all the time. i have two tots and a six month old. carts are never big enough and i only have a double stroller.
bathroom horror story, my plane landed late, so i had 10 minutes to change a baby and use the bathroom myself. they had no changing table. i put the baby on the floor and changed him while i went.

I would pick the 3-in-1 because it seems more versatile.

I am happy to say that I cannot think of a bathroom horror story off the top of my head but we are going to have to drive cross country this summer and the prospect of rest stops and convenience store bathrooms isn’t one I am looking forward to…

Ah yes, the squatty-potty, I’m reminded of my travels to Thailand. This would be fantastic. I recently wondered what to do with my hand-carried little one while I used the facilities.

I think the 3-in-1 carrier. I’m a big fan of baby carriers.

I would want the Babykeeper 3-in-1 Hip Carrier for our trip to Russia to adopt our child. I am sure that I will have some bathroom nightmare stories if I don’t have this baby carrier/keeper! I love that this piece is so multi-functional.

    Love the 3-in-1!

I also had a 6 month old with me in thailand, so I can relate. I’ve also tried to hold our 66 month old whie helping his older 2-year-old brother use the potty, and that was just as difficult!

I would want the 3-in-1. I’ve definitely needed this product while out shopping. It’s so difficult to squeeze into a tiny stall and adjust clothing appropriately while holding your baby safely and keeping his hands off everything! Thanks! uke9000 (at) gmail (dot) com

What a great invention! I have used a pouch slig up to now. My nine month old is starting to get more wiggely and grabby. The Babykeeper 3-in-1 would be a great tool. The only story I can think of is when travling in the airlines my husband asked me if I was going to take the baby with me to the lavatory. I bet with the Babykeeper I could have.

I would definitely love the Babykeeper 3 in 1 Hip Carrier. We’ve never really found an inexpensive carrier that we like and all the nice ones are so much money! So getting one for free would be amazing! I would use it all the time, especially when shopping. :)

The babykeeper 3-in-1 hip carrier looks great. Gives you maximum freedom and flexibility. And you would not be stressed out by crying baby left in another room while you use the bathroom.

Wow - I’d never seen these before. I’d be interested in the Babykeeper 3-in-1. My horror stories are more about public bathrooms with a potty-training 2 y.o. who wants to touch EVERYTHING, but it would be great to have a good place to put the baby, too.

What a fabulous invention! The 3-in-1 Hip Carrier would be great!

My baby & bathroom horror story was when I had the big stroller (you know that kind that weigh a ton and take up a ton of room) and had to go to the bathroom. So I went into the handicap stall. Just then he decided to melt down screaming and carrying on - trying to climb out. It was echoing throughout the bathroom. I was so embarrassed. But the worst was when I got out and there was an older lady (looking pained) in a wheelchair waiting for the stall. I felt so horrible, God only knows how long she was waiting for the only handicapped stall in the bathroom - the one I was in.

hip carrier! It would be a lifesaver for the times when you need both your hands to do something.I have never had a carrier even though I have wanted one for so long.My little guy is 10 months now And I still wish I had something to carry him in because he wants to be held all the time. I often end up taking him to the restroom with me and holding him on my lap. It’s crazy! Thanks for the giveaway!

I’d love to win one of these carriers. I have had several weird bathroom adventures with my son. He’s crawled on dirty floors, and touched so many things I’d rather not think about.

The Babykeeper basic. This would come in handy every time I have to take my 3 kids to a public restroom. We just potty trained my 2 year old. The first time we ventured out without a pull-up she told me she had to go potty. I had to take her, my 4 year old and my 10 month old and the huge diaper bag. I had to hold my 10 month old and the diaper bag in one arm and pick my 2 year old up to put her on the potty and keep my balance. Washing hands was just as comical, especially since they had the motion sensor faucets. I had to have my 4 year old make the sensor go while I held my other 2 and the diaper bag. I needed a nap after that!

Oh, I wish I’d had one of these last year! I always ended up trying to force my massive stroller through the doorway of various toilet stalls, or I’d have to do the ‘delicately balance baby on lap’ thing . . . . I’d go for the Babykeeper 3 in 1 Hip Carrier, nice to have a decent hip carrier when we expand the fam!
