Whew, what a week! First let me guilty confess that I have spent HOURS this week attempting to enter almost ALL 900+ giveaways over at the Bloggy Giveaways carnival. That explains my total lack of updates. I also thought that probably the rest of the blogging world was doing the same thing, so I didn’t feel very motivated. Now, however, I am ready to continue my blogging life.
Hey, check this out: www.MomMostTraveled.com . Hee hee! I plan to make it more fabulous as soon as I figure out how to *move all of this content to WordPress with a more awesome layout*. Shh! I don’t want Blogger to hear about this!
I just need to vent here about yesterday. It was not my best day on the Good Mom charts. In fact, if I had been having a Good Mom peer observation yesterday like I used to have to do when I was a teacher, I probably wouldn’t have passed. First of all, Jojo is trying out a new preschool here. This week was supposed to be a “sample week” so we didn’t have to pay. Well, we didn’t fill out any registration forms or anything, so when Jojo slipped and busted his chin, they had no way to contact us. Apparently this happened about 2 minutes after we dropped him off in the morning! SO I already felt the Bad Mom vibes from that, but as we went to pick him up from school, he was standing in his undies when we arrived. Why? Because IT WAS SWIMMING DAY, OF COURSE! All of the other kids had swim suits and Jojo wanted to swim too so he just stripped down. SOOO, Bad Mom leaves her bloody chin child at school all day, doesn’t bring a swim suit, towel, or sun screen, and Neglected Son swims in his underpants at the Gym/Spa behind the school.
I did try to be a Good Mom by staying during swimming time to sit and watch. I was rewarded by a funny scene when it was Jojo’s turn to “swim” in the deep end. In the transfer from wading pool to Big Pool, Jojo wrapped his entire body around the swim instructor like some kind of human octopus. The 20-something male swim instructor got this awkward smile (like *oh no. please get off of me this is awkward white kid in his undies clinging to my torso*) on his face and tried to gently pry Jojo off from around his torso. He eventually got him to “swim” in the water by having Jojo lay across his outstretched arms, but by this time a larger, older student was trying to attack the Swim Instructor under the water. I felt really bad for the guy.
Our neighbor’s nanny showed up and let us borrow a towel she brought, and Nick arrived for back up with dry undies.
This preschool thing is a new adventure because it is our first time to go full day. That means Jojo ostensibly takes his nap AT PRESCHOOL. (shyeah, right). So this week he has been extremely cranky in the 3pm-6pm window, but he DID go to bed at about 7:40 last night, which I see has a huge bonus. Normally he is still getting up to ask us “one more thing” around 9, even though we start bed time at 8.
I’ll be a Good Mom next week, I hope.
